Baby in movie theater?

Have you? Would you? My girls are awsome sleepers, rarely fussy. I'm tempted to take them with us to a matinee, but I don't want to be "that" mom. Of course I would take them out if they got noisy and maybe choose a seat near the exit just in case. We haven't been to a movie since Christmas.

Re: Baby in movie theater?

  • Last movie I saw was frozen, and I think it was on Christmas! DD did well until the last 15min and we had to leave. I want to go see malificent but I don't know if I can do two kids. I guess I could always just leave.
  • Loading the player...
  • An infant? Never have, and never will. It's just not the place IMO (unless it's a baby friendly showing like some of the ladies are talking about). I haven't been to a theater in almost 2 years, and I used I go monthly

  • I did last week and plan to again next week but our theater has cry rooms in some of the screenings. My son slept through most if it waking up for a little bit to eat. I did see one movie when DS1 was an infant without a cry room and it was fine. I wore him in the moby and when he started to wake I stood in the hall of the movie and swayed. I could still see and hear the movie and I wasn't a distraction to anyone.

  • I've thought about taking baby girl to go see maleficent but I'm a little worried about the noise but nothing else. Otherwise I would just sit at the very top near the exit so I could nurse and take her out if she got fussy! We will see!

  • I have thought about it, but haven't done it. I wish I would have gone a few weeks ago - at 10 weeks she's not sleeping nearly as long or often and I don't think it would be possible.

I don't want to go to a mother/baby screening because I think the other kids will be annoying. Is that terrible of me?
  • I went to a matinee of malifacent this week. Wore LO in a carrier and he slept the whole time. It was near empty and he let out a couple sleep shrieks, but it was great! I didn't consider the sound and it was loud! So I covered his ears with the ktan and my hand. We also have mommy and me screenings on Tuesday ams.
    Ps. Highly recommend the movie.

  • Loved malifacent!
  • I never would. It's too loud and I'd be mortified if he woke up. That being said we're going to leave him with a sitter next weekend and go catch a movie, and I can't wait!
  • To me, movie tickets are so expensive that I don't want to ruin the experience for myself or anyone around me.   We went to see Pacific Rim whenever it was out last year and a family came in with about a three month old baby and a couple other kids under age 6.  I think the whole theater did a collective groan.
  • ^ @olenkapdx‌ - this exactly! I don't think the theaters nearby offer mommy/baby screenings (how nice!), therefore I wouldn't want to ruin the movie for other patrons if a scream-fest started. Even if my LO was an angel (which she is 80% of the time...) I wouldn't risk going if she happened to be super fussy. It would also stress me out and make the movie less enjoyable for me if I worried about it, or had to run out.

Pre-baby, I vowed to myself that I would never bring a child to a movie that wasn't age appropriate no matter how desperate I am for a day/night out. I just hope babysitters will be available when a date night is needed!
  • I took my 8 week old to the movies this week with my 4.5 year old. It was just Regal's kid summer movies ($1 per ticket-- and they didn't charge me for the baby), but he slept soundly in my K'Tan throughout the entire movie. I will definitely do it again sometime soon.
