Super Sweet Baby Food Idea

Hi All-

I wanted to share a gem I came up with (or at least think I came up with).

I remember some discussions this week about babies not liking being fed- which is my LO to a T. I started making her some fruit (and hidden veggie) snacks out of her purees. I just heat on the stove and add some gelatin. I get the organic grass-fed gelitan online- protein bonus!

She loves feeding herself the little squares and I have the ease that the choking risk is super low.

I don't use any specific recipe, but rather have seen DIY fruit snack recipes online and would make for myself long before LO existed. Who would have thought it would be our cure-all for the table food issue?

Right now she's chowing on banana and strawberry ones!

  • That sounds great! Do you pour it in a pan to cool and make the cubes? How big do you make them?

  • I buy the Great Lakes brand off Amazon for my gelatin. You can get unflavored gelatin from the grocery store too.

-I add about 2tbsp. to approximately 3-4c. of puree and use my immersion blender to mix.
-Pour into a greased pan and let set for about an hour. I cut them into small cubes about the same size as her puffs and store in a tupperware for a few days.

I would encourage you to find some links to DIY fruit snacks (don't add sugar or honey, obviously), but they do a much better job of explaining. The biggest difference is that I use much less gelatin so that they are soft enough for LO to eat, but still keep their shape. I eat them like a fool too.
