OH. NO.

OMFG!! Failure. So my back never fully healed after falling down the stairs over a month ago. I could tell there was still a knot in the middle of my back but felt fine overall. I was going to get a massage soon and thought that might help.

I just leaned down to pick up DD2, barely twisted, and completely threw my back out. I barely did anything! I can't walk well and can hardly breathe it hurts so bad. I'm laying, pressing my back hard against a pillow. That's the only way to stop the spasms. It's worse than the initial fall.

Ugh! My sister's boyfriend is a Chiropractor and will be here in 2 weeks from today for DD1's birthday party. In the meantime, do I go to one in town on Monday? Is it better to be worked on once you've healed some or while you're having spasms? Barf.

*puts skinny jeans and stilettos back on shelf and cancels dinner plans* I could cry :((

  • Oh no I'm sorry-- do you have a heating pad?? Lay on that with a pillow under your knees.
  • I'm so sorry. I would definitely try to get into a chiropractor on Monday. 2 weeks is a long time to wait with a painful back! Hope you feel better soon!
  • See a chiro soon. I threw my back out while picking up a bath towel (so nothing heavy) when A. was about 2 mo. It was awful (especially because her baptism was the next morning, so we were expecting a houseful of guests). I couldn't lay down/sit up without assistance.

Anyway, I had never seen a chiropractor. I was skeptical. It took a few months of awful back pain to go. And in about 2 seconds, the pain was gone. I still have flare-ups, but now I go in as soon I think there might be a problem.

And it's well worth the money.

    Feel better soon!

Do Chiros take insurance? Just curious, but I'm going either way. My sister's BF is pulling some strings right now to get me in down here on Monday, and they live 3 hours away. So nice! But taking 3 kids with me? OMG

  • If it's spasming, try taking a muscle relaxant. I had the same thing happen (couldn't walk standing straight up, pain took my breath away) and my doctor told me to take Robaxacet to relieve the muscle spasms - it worked. Then see a chiro ASAP to check and adjust alignment.

  • Most chiropractors accept insurance.
  • I took half of a Skelaxin from an Rx from when I fell. So far it's not working...

  • Oh man! I'm sorry. For me it's always just a matter of time.

Are you sure you threw your back out? I tore a muscle doing the same thing and ended up in PT for over 6 months.

I have no idea honestly. It feels like a pulled muscle, with some nerve pain? Truthfully, I don't even know what "threw my back out" really means. I assumed it implied a muscle spasm type of thing.

  • I'm so sorry. I have fractured vertebrae (lumbar) so I know all about awful pain. I do not do chiropractors, but they aren't a bad idea. You may want to consider an orthopedic visit because there may be slipping discs & other issues that could be aggravated by an adjustment rather than helped.

  • Also, you'd probably need help with child care.

  • This scares me for the future too. I'm the kind of Mom who does log rolls on the floor with the kids and throws DD1 up in the air. I hurt my back today by literally twisting an inch. WTH
