The remarry poll had me wondering...
How many of us have been in a long distance relationship? What was your experience? Got any stories to share (funny or sad)
I've been with my hubs for 11 years now and of that 6 years have been apart... and from that 6 years 4 years total was spent in Iraq. Our longest stretch was 14 months apart. His longest deployment was 9.5 months...
Crazy story: When I first moved out to live near his base (8th & I, wash DC) I spent the night in his car... in southeast DC. YIKES. probably not smart
Funny story: On his first deployment I mailed him coffee and snacks. my mom mailed him dirty magazines... lol

Re: Long Distance Relationships
We made a deal to at least write each other every 3 days even if it's to say nothing. The upside is when he comes home we get to have all the new relationship cuteness and giddiness. It's like a relationship reset. So some downsides but an amazing silver lining.
We've also spent half or relationship apart but 6 months has been my longest away and 5 months my longest with him.

Well that didn't happen, obviously. It took a year and he came to visit again. This was march 2007 and he officially moved here in August 2007. This happened without me ever meeting his family.
My mom asked me to wait a year to get married or think of it. That way we had time to be together in person and date in person. Six months later he proposed and six months after we were married. The first time I met his family was when they came down for the wedding.
Oh and my dad has apologized many times for how he treated him. In some crazy way it worked out and we hate having to be long distance for anything now, like business trips and such. We were long distance for 2 years and together 9 years now, married 6.

Was hard but has made us stronger.
Once we were married & hubby got offered his current job in UAE we decided it was time to be together as a family & give up living apart!
We love it & haven't looked back.
Being apart has def made us stronger & appreciate each other more.
