Neat Baby Gear

Some of these look like a total waste of money but some look really cool! I'm totally eyeballing that car seat blanket! What do y'all think? :-)

I have that travel high chair where the baby is strapped to a chair. We used it on vacation and at some restaurants and it worked great. Some of that stuff is ridiculous but a lot of it looks good. I like the pacifier that closes when you drop it.

  • I want the flower tub thing, the carseat heat cover and blanket are cool too. And youd be crazy to not want the urinal!!! Lmao.
  • We have some of these. The strap for the bottle/cup/etc worked well. We bought an actual travel high chair that is a booster seat with a tray that straps to the chair-we loved this more than restaurant high chairs and they got better reviews than the kind that hang on the tables. We have a woombie bit DS hated being swaddled. I wanted onesie extenders but never bothered, though they help with fluffy butts.

I will say that the car seat blanket is cute but potentially unsafe. There shouldn't be anything between the clothed baby and the seat. Though light jackets are ok, so the blanket might be ok. Tough to say without knowing exactly how thick it is. But we have a car seat cover and would place several blankets over DS when taking him out so to us it would be unnecessary.

  • Thanks for sharing this @PineApple85‌

There are a lot of interesting things on there that I think are worth looking into. Plus it's nice to hear everyone's opinion on the items they already have.

Question for you STM who breast fed, regarding the breast feeding tag thingy. I have seen several products that say they help you keep tract of which boob was used last or whatever. Do you actually forget that easily? I can see this maybe happening at night, but I can also see myself forgetting to switch sides with the tag too.... Am I over thinking this?

  • @MrsAdventure‌ Personally, I didn't bf for long, but one boob would feel quite a bit heavier to the point of leakage. I don't think I had a problem remembering.
(had to think how to word that - I don't remember not remembering? Ha)

I put a few of those items on my registry.. thanks for the share @PineApple85‌
  • @MrsAdventure‌ Like @Sarahbeth612‌ said, one side will feel fuller for a while and that helps. Seriously, grabbing a handful of boob becomes second nature to the point that I caught myself doing it out in public - like in restaurants and stuff. Whoops. I didn't have an overwhelming issue, but DS's pediatrician recommended using a safety pin.

  • @carcrashheart‌ Thanks for the feedback. I knew someone had mentioned something like that before, and aside from sharing the cool, off-the-wall stuff with everyone, I was also hoping to hear about it again.

  • That's some good stuff, thanks for linking. The It's Been should be on that list! It helps keep track the duration of/ time between sleep/food/diaper/boob.
  • Thanks for the info. I was thinking something along the same lines as what you both said. My first thought whenever I see those sorts of things is, 'hey cool' followed by, 'but are they a solution to something that isn't even an issue'. Glad I asked. Thanks again.

  • I would love that co sleeper!!!! Ugh!
  • @MrsAdventure‌- I used a free app on my phone that would track which boob was used last and how long. I didn't always feel really full on one side, and dd ended up getting really sick so it was helpful for me to monitor her feeding times.
  • As stated before, the onesie extenders are awesome for cloth diapers!

  • I actually did keep a journal of feeding and diapers now that you mention it @mussalynn
  • Someone gave us one of those pacifiers that snap shut when dropped. Maybe it was too small, but DS really didn't like it. It seemed like he couldn't get it far enough in his mouth because of the guards on each side. It would snap shut at almost any touch to the side of it, so it was annoying. We threw it out the first day of using it.

I like the stroller organizer, but really wouldn't ever use it since my diaper bag has stroller straps that pretty much do the same thing. I want that bathtub caddy!

I totally agree!  That thing saved my life, and I always give one at baby showers.

For the rest, I really didn't see anything that I couldn't live without, except the onsie extenders and the sippy cup tether.  DD is super tall, and outgrew lengthwise before widthwise.  Those saved us some money!  And you will get so tired of picking up thrown cups that you will try anything to keep them on the tray!

    My negative reviews:

I'm pretty sure the kid is going to still taste the medicine in the dispensing cup.  Plus, DD never drinks all of her sippy, so there's no way she'd take all of the medicine!

The paci thermometer is cool, but won't work if your LO is a mouth breather (and if he/she has a cold, they will be mouth breathing).

The stroller pouch is just a very small diaper bag.  Save your money.

You can get the nursing tag effect with something on your wrist, or the good old "grab the boob"

The bottle cage thing is weird--by the time they're toddlers, they'd better be able to hold onto a bottle on their own!

I'm worried about the safety of the carseat blanket too.  They sell blankets that fit over infant seats (like a tent), and we do have one of those.  I definitely wouldn't wrap something around a baby in an infant seat like that.  And plus when you get to the car with the heat on, that blanket is going to boil the baby!

Airline hammock?  Great idea, until the person in front of you leans their seat back!  And what airline has that much room between the rows???

I have no opinion on the rest of them :)

  • Some of them look awesome! I love the airplane cradle thing. The onesie extender is a good idea but pretty expensive for what you get. I've heard great things about the woombie.

  • Yeah we had the pacifier that closes too. It doesn't ALWAYS close and the part that closes is too big on the sides and would dig in a little make indents on my daughter's cheeks. She didn't like it much either, but she wasn't ever really into pacifiers much at all.

That's what I would be worried about; it digging into LO's cheeks. Plus you'd still have the issue of trying to find it once LO dropped it. I'd rather have it on a paci clip.

The bottle sling is a horrible idea for really young infants. I would be petrified that LO would gag or choke because s/he wasn't able to get the bottle out of his mouth. If you were right there it probably wouldn't be an issue, but if you were driving with LO in the backseat? I'd have a heart attack!

I love the molar muncher and the car seat sunshade! I have a car seat cooler that you insert cold packs into, but I have to remember to put it in/get it out of the freezer each time. Having one I could just leave in the car would be neat, but would be any more effective than throwing a blanket over the seat?

I was already planning to make the car seat blanket, bath caddy, and some other things. I'll have to make that sippy tether and definitely the onesie extenders! All 3 of mine had really long torsos, so they would be too long well before they filled out a onesie. And it would have been great for getting onesies around those cloth diapers!

Yes!  It is so easy to forget, when you're sleep deprived and trying to keep track of a million different things (in the beginning we were told to keep track of what time DS started eating, how long he ate, what time he was done, when he peed, when he pooped, and a million other things to make sure he was hydrated enough/getting enough to eat.  I actually had a pee/poo spreadsheet.)  You definitely don't need to buy a tag though, I used a hair elastic on my wrist, and would switch it from one wrist to the other.

    ---------- quote fail edit ---------

    Everything she said!

After a few months a boob squeeze would let me know which side to start on, but before then I had trouble telling...and remembering. I wore a hair rubber band on my wrist as well. No telling how many times I forgot to switch it though and still started on the wrong side. haha

I also totally forgot about keeping track of feeding times, lengths, and wet and dirty diapers. That was such a pain! And I'm anal so my spreadsheet was ridic.
