Wonder Weeks people - 2nd leap and naps

Last two days I can't get LO to nap more than 15 mins. Even when I am holding her she startles awake after 10 mins or so and won't settle back down. I looked at wonder weeks and turns out she is in the midst of the 2nd leap and it says we have 13 days to go. I can't live through 13 days of this. Did leap 2 screw up daytime sleeping for you and did it last the whole time?

This has not impacted nighttime sleeping (yet). Did it for you?

Yes! Daytime and nighttime sleeping is not what it was not sure if it's due to the leap or it just happens with babies.

  • Yup. My little guy has been taking 15 minute cat naps every 2-3 hours during day, but sleeping through the night. He's not cranky or anything, though - he's actually his regular happy self.

  • Sooooo glad someone posted this. Exactly our life right now. Won't sleep more than 30 min at a time durin day and is so restless at night in her sleep
  • Same here. I can't transfer B from my arms to her crib, swing or RNP but she's sleeping all night.
  • My dude has terrible sleeping habits already due to the fact he still eats every 2 hours around the clock and this second leap is seriously screwing shit up even more.
  • So glad I am not alone in this. Although right after I posted his I managed to get her down and she's been asleep for 2 hours now. I put one of my nursing tanks, which I wore all day yesterday, in her RNP under her. Not sure if that's what made the difference or if she just finally decided to give in to sleep.

Oh and when she does wake up from her short naps, she has been in a full cry, not the happy baby she normally is.

  • We have the opposite here. I can actually put him down for naps during the day it is a miracle.
  • Yeah my LO is going through this leap a few days early I think. Grizzly all day, naps for only about ten mins if I'm lucky in the day, and only in my arms as opposed to crib, bouncy chair etc. Still sleeping ok at night (3-4 hours) but during the hours if about 8am till 8pm, she's a nightmare.
  • Another vote for 10 min naps only in my arms, but still sleeping all night. Crankier than usual, but not nearly as cranky as my other 2 were when they weren't leaping.

Same here - my DS was unhappy most of the time. If this one just has periods of being sorta cranky compared to him then I'll take it!!!

  • Car naps through the day but sleeping all night is fine by me !
  • Leap 2 messed up my kids sleep too, he went from nice solid naps to fighting them like CRAZY and having lots of catnaps. Sometimes it feels like a battle of wills but it has been getting better thankfully!
  • As I lie here on the couch with LO on my chest on this beautiful day, I am dealing with the same thing. Between the vaccinations that he received on Thursday + the leap, he's been a bear.

He's been an angel at daycare and taking long naps, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
  • Yup, I've been going through this for the last few days. My LO typically takes 1 solid nap in the a.m., with 15 min. cat naps in the afternoon. Getting him to go down for the night has been awful, too. Terribly grumpy, but that's really nothing new.
  • My LO just started her 2nd leap on Sunday, after having vaccinations on Friday and she is a mess!!! Won't sleep for more than 10 minutes unless someone is holding her or rocking her to sleep. Otherwise it's catnaps all day with exhausted/overtired screaming in between. Today though she napped on me for 2 hours and is now napping with DH on the couch so far for an hour (which shocks me because he is snoring so loudly!!!)

She was doing so well last week, calm and happy in between naps and I thought her colic was calming down and now all hell has broken lose - again!!! I had to hand off LO to DH when he got home and go to Target for 45 minutes just to de-stress!
  • @embear22‌ - yes my LO definitely did that during the last two-three days of the leap.

  • LO sleeps well at night but daytime naps are short and she is super cranky all day. But so far it hasn't been every day. She will have a good day every other day or sometimes every two days. This is just our experience so far.

Same here! Though my LO has less crankiness it seems.

  • She will only sleep in my arms for 20 min at a time! She still sleeps in 6-7 hour stretches at night but I'm noticing she's even fighting going back after her motn feeding which she's never done before! I usually feed change reswaddle and back to bed in about 20-30 minutes but last night was over an hour of bouncing and nursing and bouncing and nursing
  • This makes me feel better too. It seems like she just keeps fighting naps and makes getting anything productive done impossible. And if I get her to sleep in my arms I try the transfer and am always unsuccessful. Today I gave up and she slept on my chest for 2 hours.
