Head percentile

Anyone else out there with melon heads for babies??? 99% percentile here! We need a baby support group for the kids who won't be able to hold their own head up until month 4!! :)

Re: Head percentile

  • My kids (one baby, one toddler) are both 75th percentile for head, but DS is more proportional (90% weight, 90% height, 75% head) whereas DD is more head than anything else (10% weight, 50% height, 75% head). DD has always been that way though. It's why her nickname is Bean.

  • I feel like the difference between a big head and a little one is miniscule at this age. DS is in the 90th percentile and DD's head has always been near the very bottom of the charts...and yet their baby photos look identical and their head measurements from corresponding months aren't that far off.

  • 94 percentile here! Everyone always says he looks smaller than he weighs... I think that's because a lot of the weight is his head! Haha.

And he was born by c-section after 21 hours of labor because his head was too big.

  • Tessa is 10th percentile for head circumference, but just about 50th percentile for height and weight. I agree with ACA - half an inch can make a huge difference at this age. The funny thing is, Tessa looks like she has a big head to me. Maybe it's just all of her fluffy hair!
  • I have a pin head, 10th percentile! It was very nice for giving birth!

  • 91% for head, 56th for length & only 26th for weight.... Seems all over the place!

  • At the two week visit the midwife said he had the biggest head she'd ever seen on a two week old. No official measurement since then.

  • Patrick's was so off the charts at 6 weeks we have to go in for an ultrasound so make sure nothing is wrong :(

  • LO's head is in the 100th percentile. Didn't even know that was possible. He is in the 90's for height and weight also (was 10lbs 6 oz at birth).

  • I think at one month we were at 97% for head and somewhere between 3-5% for body. Lol. Big ole melon and petite body. The doc said it'll even out over time. You can definitely tell LO has a big head, though.

95th for my girl, buy she was in the 90+ percentile for weight too. Big bean, did not make things easy for me on her way out. She has great head control so far and looks like a 4 month old. Overachiever all around :)

  • My DS1 is completely off the charts with his head. He is 2 but his head is 100% for a 4 year old. We have gotten cat scans and MRIs, and he just has a massive head. DS2 is 90% for his head so far.
  • DD2 was 99% in every category and still is. She was born with great head control and still has great head control. I sit her up and she sits there and looks around turns her head and is happy as a little clam for hours.
  • DD is in the 99% for head, 65% for height and 50% for weight. She looks proportional and the doctor at the hospital said her head size was due to being breech. I'm thinking it will all even out over time.
  • We're 5th percentile for head, 50th for weight and 90th for length! She looks normal and proportional to me but maybe that's just because I'm used to seeing her like that and don't really have anyone else to compare her head to. This thread makes me wonder how many inches difference the 5th and 100th percentile are.

These measurements are almost the same as my DS!

  • @Kyllarae‌ 14.2in would be 4th% and 16.7in would be 99% at 7 weeks old. Obviously differs at all ages, but this was easiest for me to calc as DD2 is 7wks.
  • 54% for height, 42% for weight, and 0.04% for head. He's got a teeny head I guess. The doctor isn't worried as long as he's growing.
