Rash on Face & Head

I have noticed a red rash on my son's face and head over the past couple of days. I have attached two photos to show the rash. Yesterday, a friend mentioned that it could be a drool rash because he has recently started drooling a lot and putting his hands in his mouth and wiping the drool all over his face. I have noticed that the rash is a lot less noticeable first thing in the morning and become more noticeable later in the day as he is putting his hands in his mouth more.

I just wanted to see if anyone else knew if this is what it could be. Not sure how the rash would be on his head if it is in fact a drool rash. I want to make sure it isn't something more serious. Any ideas?

    My daughter had something similar and doctor had no idea what it was she just presumed it was from a virus. She had a cold at the time. It would come and go but eventually cleared up.
