Kids sleeping bag?

We're going to be doing a lot of tent camping this summer, as always. The last two summers I was co-sleeping with DD, so keeping her warm wasn't an issue. Now I'm co-sleeping with DS, but DD will be out on her own and I'm thinking about keeping her warm (we're in Canada - it gets chilly). Do 2 year olds stay in sleeping bags? If so, any recs for brands/types? Or tutorials for a DIY?

What do your kids sleep in while camping?

Re: Kids sleeping bag?

  • Ay. I bought dd a cheap sleeping bag at gander mountain. I don't know how it's rated but they had them. Hers is pink and yes she stays in it.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • Don't get a kids one.  Don't get a character one.  Don't go cheap.
Our kids have good, adult sized ones rated to 0 degrees I think.  DH's thing, I told him I won't camp if the lows are before freezing!!  Kids grow and you don't want to sell a crappy sleeping bag in a year or two because it's too small.  Kid ones (IMO) are not rated to real temps, they are for play sleeping on the LR floor.
  • I second arnegard. Get a good full size one, but about 20 degrees colder than you think you will be camping at. The kid ones suck and they outgrow them fast. We also bring extra blankets in case they get cold or want to sleep on top of the bag but need a lighter covering. Also get a good pad for under. I like ones that put away fast too (just shove in a stuff sack) and don't take a lot of room in the car.

  • Get a good, adult-sized one.  DS has a sleeping bag, but it is a character one and I can't see it being warm at all. He only uses it when he has a sleepover at my mom's house, or won't stay in his bed.  I would not let him sleep outside in it unless it was going to be a very warm night.
  • I agree with getting a good one.  Sierra Trading Post is a great place to look for a really good one at a good price.
  • Thanks you guys :) We'll definitely go for an good quality adult-sized one!
