Pharrell headdress photo

This may be a bit of a post and run, because I have a busy day, but I am genuinely curious what you guys think here.
At what point does wearing something from another culture become offensive? I get the obvious, when you are doing it to poke fun, degrade, etc. But why is taking something beautiful from another culture and wearing it in what appears to be a respectful manner offensive?
I aesthetically find the Pharrell cover beautiful. My friend from India is always giving me gorgeous Indian stuff.....would it be offensive for me to sport a sari or a henna tat?
Talk to me. I feel like our society has really hit a weird place in racial relations.

Re: Pharrell headdress photo

  • I saw the cover a few days ago. The article made it seem as though it was a controversial thing but my first thought was maybe he's got a little Native American in him? But than I thought maybe I was being insensitive to presume a race. Even if he isn't Native American, I really didn't see a problem with the picture. And agree with you it was pleasing to my eye.

  • @Estwd2‌ thank you for explaining that. Honestly, I'm feeling a bit stupid for not making that connection.
  • Thanks @Estwd2‌! Your answer makes perfect sense. I wasn't thinking of it like that, I don't know why
