Gender Question

I am currently 18w3d & I assumed we would find out our baby's gender at our OB appt. yesterday but she did not even do a sonogram.  She said since our anatomy scan is scheduled for next week that she didn't need to do one.  She also mentioned that it will probably be too early to tell the gender at the anatomy scan.  I will be 19w3d on the day of the scan so I was pretty surprised by this comment.  We are thinking about going to one of those sonogram places (which we have already been to & it was a great experience) today or tomorrow just to find out the gender because it is killing me to know & I feel like we are far enough along.  Most of the sonogram places say they can tell by 16 weeks.  When did everyone else find out?

We saw very clear boy parts at our NT scan at 12w1d, but I know that's not the norm. We also went to an early gender scan at 15 weeks and confirmed, so I would go if you want to! I am surprised your OB said that about the anatomy scan. Maybe she doesn't want to get your hopes up in case the baby doesn't cooperate? Good luck!!!

They should be able to tell with a pretty high level of certainty at the anatomy scan. If I were you I'd just wait a week.

As long as the baby is cooperating you should definitely be able to tell by now. My OB told me she could most likely tell by 14 weeks. When I did my NT at 12.5 weeks the tech had a guess already. We will see how accurate she was! :)

at 16w4d, they told us 2 boys. at 18w4d, they told us a boy and a girl. And finally at the anatomy scan at 20w4d they confirmed that we're having a boy and a girl. I'd say at this point, they should be able to tell at your scan next week. But if you've got the extra money and want to know a week early, I don't think there's any harm in going to get an elective ultrasound.

We found out through blood testing at 12 weeks, but confirmed with no question at 16w. As long as your baby cooperates, they should be able to tell. GL!

Yeah, I don't know why she said you wouldn't be able to tell at 18w3d because I think it's pretty safe to say you will be able to tell then (providing LO cooperates). Honestly, though, what's one week? Unless you have money to burn, I would just wait for your a/s.

We had blood work at just before 11 weeks that would have told us if we choose to find out. I believe people who have wanted to know by ultrasound could know by they are at your point in pregnancy. We have an elective 3d ultrasound with my son ( actually had 2) and it was awesome! Pretty cheap too, the one in the US was only 85 and included pics and a DVD. If you are just dying to know I say go for it! Compared to how much IFers have paid out to get pregnant it just a drop in the ocean!

My OB only does the Doppler thing to hear the heart beat. We have all our ultrasounds at the hospital. We had the same tech for the 12 and 20 week ultrasound. My husband asked her at the 20 week if there was any chance for error (so many people kept telling us "those scans aren't always accurate". Of course most of them had kids 10-20 years ago when u/s were less accurate). The tech said she knew it was boy at 12 weeks but because it was so early it was hard to be positive so when we asked then she said its too early. By 19 weeks there should be no doubt as long as baby cooperates.

We asked our MFM at our NT Scan and they said occasionally you get a clear indication at the NT scan but definitely by around 16 weeks they can tell.  We go back at 18 weeks and they told us they should be able to tell us then.

I was 19w5d at my anatomy scan and both babies genders were clear as day. When we did the NT scan at 13.5 weeks the tech did guess, but I didnt take her guess seriously considering it was so early.
