Who is going back to work next week?

Today is my last official day of maternity leave. But I don't go back to work until Tuesday since I don't work Mondays. However today is my last day with just DS2 just the 2 of us all day since DS1 is home with us on Mondays. How are you ladies spending your last day of leave?

DS2 and I ran some errands this morning and hung out with a girlfriend in the neighborhood who was having a garage sale. This afternoon we have spent cuddling on the couch.

How are you coping with the thought of going back to work next week?

Re: Who is going back to work next week?

  • Me. First day back is Monday. Boo.
I'm hanging out while my sister learns to nanny. Which is basically laughing at her freak out about how to get a onesie on over her head.

  • I was supposed to, but they messed up my paperwork so I went back today.  Not gonna lie, it was rough, it was hard to leave LO this morning.  But I survived, the day is almost over and it makes my drive home soooo happy because I am so excited to go pick up LO.

Yesterday LO and I went to my SILs house to give her her birthday present, then the three of us went into town, had lunch, shopped and had ice cream.  When my brother got off work he met up with us and then we went back to their house for pizza.  LO was crabby when we got home from being out for so long, so we had a nice bath and then I rocked her to sleep.  It was a nice day.

Today was easy though, my boss just said to go ahead and spend the day checking emails and organizing my desk (they had to pack up my stuff for carpet installation) and I can dive back in on Monday.  They also threw me a shower since they didn't before I left, so I have a yummy potluck lunch.  Plus, it's Friday so now I get to snuggle my LO all weekend.  I'm afraid I am in for a rude awakening when I have to go ALL five days, and actually do work.

  • I went two days this week, go three days next week and then back full time - see First day of work/daycare post.... I'm using my last days going to sushi with a friend, getting a mani with my sister, relaxing as much as I can and getting all the snuggles. The first day I cried as I left him and once while pumping, yesterday I teared up but didn't full out cry. I don't know how I'll do going all day every day though :-/ My boss was on vaca this week so I went in at 9 and left at 3....

  • I go back next Saturday :(. I'll be working three days a week. Saturday-Monday and LO will be home with DH on Saturday and Sunday and my mom on Monday. I had an ugly cry about going back last night while riding LO. I'm just not ready to leave her for a whole day. I'm going to be a hot mess next weekend. I will probably need a pep talk on Friday.
  • Went back yesterday. My DH is watching her because he has the summers off, so that makes it easier and I work part time. I am transitioning into a new job in the fall, so I know it will be harder when I leave her with the woman who is going to watch her.

  • I just found out today that I go back the week after next. My position is temporary, and they told me I couldn't work more until July or August, but HR relented and is letting me come back on my original date. Now I have a week to find a sitter and establish a freezer stash. Ack!
  • I'm back to work this Monday cold turkey, 40+ hours a week. I really enjoy my job and my coworkers so part of me is looking forward to going back. However, I am going to miss LO during the day and am scared I'm going to miss important milestones since I'm going to be away from her so much. My biggest fear is that I won't be able to balance it all, but I guess I'll find out soon enough!
  • I'm starting back Monday too! I went in on Wednesday to show off LO and chat and they apparently need me back already, I wasn't planning on returning for a few more weeks.
Luckily my mom will be able to watch LO during the summertime and I told work I will only be working part time for the next few months but I still don't know if I can't handle everything.
  • I start Monday. I'm 40 hours a week plus a half hour commute. I also kind of hate my job, so I'm dreading it. I've been crying off and on for days. I'm just trying not to think about it too much and to come up with a plan to get me out of there.
  • I go bak Monday, but only for a week since I am a teacher and it'll be summer recess. I am looking at it as a trial run before I really go back in September. I have been off 8 weeks and it seems like it went by so fast.

  • Like I said in OP I go back on Tuesday but my parents watch DSs on Tuesdays. Then DS2 starts at DC on Wednesday DS1 is excited that DS2 will be at his school even though they won't see each other. I feel better about the DC part since I know the infant teachers since they watched DS1 and they are excited to have DS2 so I know he will get extra love. DS2 had reflux so he is extra fussy so I feel bad about DS2 not feeling well and the teachers having to deal with that but luckily his meds have helped. There were a bunch of changes at work while I was gone and I am getting promoted so I'm stepping into a new role so I'm going to have to hit the ground running which is good since I won't have time to miss DS2 too much.

    Good luck ladies!

  • I go back full time Monday. I was lucky to have a transition week this last week. DH stayed home Monday and Tuesday. I was off Wednesday & Friday. And we practiced day care for a half day on Thursday.

I cried a lot. Leading up to and during the week. But I can see how people say it gets easier, especially since I like my job.

Last weekend I went and had a long overdue mani/pedi. This weekend, if we are feeling better (LO and I both have colds right now), I want to go shopping. I think my feet got a little bigger and I need new shoes.

  • @DTNZ4Ever‌ that's a great idea about milestones. My mom is watching LO so I'll talk to her about keeping milestones to herself until my DH and I have experienced them. That will definitely help the mom guilt a bit. Also, congrats on the promotion and good luck!!
  • Me :( But I'm a teacher and only go back for a week! Then I have the whole summer off.

Thanks for the milestone advice. I go back in two weeks and am scared out of my mind. My job used to be 50 hours m-f plus a 40 min commute each way. Aka 730-715 each day. I am only working 9-5 now I don't care. We will see how that blows over

This - before maternity leave I worked from 730a-530p or later every day, plus have a 45 min commute, plus answer texts and email beginning at 6a and going until 11p.... Going back I intend to work 730a-430p - fingers crossed I can pull it off or DH and I will have to have a serious chat

Same with me with emails. You're always expected to be "on". Exhausting. I will cross my fingers for you if you cross yours for me!
    You got it :-)

I go back tomorrow. I'm an RN and work 40+ hours a week. My sister in law is watching DS for the summer which will make it easier , but I have cried about 5 times already just thinking about it. Writing down his schedule for her, talking about his favorite books and activities. :( to make my anxiety worse, DS sucks at taking a bottle. I know he wont starve, but he won't be happy. I'm sure tonight will be a no sleep kind of night. Good luck to all of you going back as well!

    Edited to add more dramatization.

I went back last Thursday and have my first trip this week. When I'm not traveling, I work from home and a nanny comes to my house, which is great but still hate not spending every moment with my LO.

But when I'm on the road, I'm on the road. Nursing will be a challenge but I'm committed to making it work. I've never been more torn on what to do.

Part of me wants to quit and just stay home with him and part of me thinks this is the perfect situation if I can just make it through the 5-10 days a month I'll be traveling.
  • I don't go back until the 22 but wanted to wish you all good luck going back to work and hope it all works out. I know it sucks.
  • I want to move to Canada :(. I'm a hot mess already and I don't go back until Saturday.
