Question for all the parents out there, what is a reasonable payment for a babysitter these days???? The husband and I are going out for a few hours Saturday night and will be going out after the lo goes to bed.
I think it depends a little bit on the age of the sitter. If I were having a jr high or high schooler watch him, I'd go with 8-10/hour. If I were going with a college student, 10-12/hour. I feel like you're getting more dependency with someone a bit older.
That being said, when I babysat (as recently as 2 years ago), I generally let the family dictate how much they paid me. If it wasn't enough to make it worth my while, I just didn't take jobs from them anymore. Make sense? The most I was ever paid was $12/hour for a six-month old - that was in grad school 5 years ago.
We pay the 13 year old daughter of a friend $8/per hour to watch our daughter in the evenings after she goes to bed. The first time, the kid was like "but all I did was watch TV and eat pizza!" and we were like, we know, please please keep being available for us to go out on a Saturday night!
