Cluster feeding

LO has been up for the past 4+ hours feeding constantly. She did this yesterday too. She is 3 weeks 5 days.
I try to rock her to sleep in her darkened room because I know she is over tired but she is wide awake.

I feel like all I do is nurse her and I'm worried about how little she is sleeping during the day. Sorry to complain just feeling really tired and frustrated.

Re: Cluster feeding

  • This was us yesterday. At 3 weeks your lo is going through a growth spurt. It's no fun but she'll hopefully get over it in a day or so.

  • It can be frustrating, but it's totally normal.  It will pass!

  • This is my life as well. I'm going crazy. Hopefully it passes soon.
  • Glad to know I'm not alone! Going on 6 hours and only small cat naps for LO. Worried she won't sleep tonight!

It's rough but happens! My guy was up from 7 am ish til 1 with only a 40 min nap in there just awake and feeding like every hour! I finally plopped him in the stroller and went for a good 40 min walk and he's out for the count! He tends to do this daily as in awake in the am for hours on end then out like a light in the pm, early evening and into later evening where he fusses some then out again through night hours minus waking for food! Totally normal mama just try to stay calm and remember if it's too much out baby down somewhere safe and walk away for 5 min as long as they arnt screaming their head off they will be ok quiet or babbling on their own lol

  • One of our clusters was almost 12 hours. I was so done by the end of the day and luckily he slept all the next day.

Spurts are very tiring. But hang in there, watch some trashy TV and eat some snacks :)
  • I have a cluster feeder too. She's 2 weeks today. It's normal and usually after the long feeds they do a long nap. Mine is cluster feeding in the evening from like 7-11ish and then she sleeps for a good 4 hours. Wakes for a short feeding and then down for another 3-4 hours. It's frustrating feeding her for so long but at least I'm getting a decent stretch of sleep at night.
  • Growth spurt! We're in the same boat. It will pass and then you'll hit the 6 week one which is a real doosie.

Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!

  • I hear the six week one is a difficult one :(

It is. With DS1 I spent a few days camped out on the couch only getting up to pee and replenish my pile of snacks. I'm scared of the 6 week one with a toddler. I might have to call my grandma if it's that bad this time.

  • We are in between the three and six week spurts. The three week one was so insane...can't wIt for six weeks
  • Oh goody. It will coincide with my IL visit.
  • Checking in. She takes about 10 minute naps, fusses and then feeds. Passes out and repeat.

    It's a BOY

  • Yep, sounds like what we went through around the same time. That growth spurt was a doosey. It'll pass. Hopefully you both get some sleep soon!

I personally wouldn't suggest this. Then you will be stuck always supplementing. Growth spurts are meant to increase supply (in addition to growing). If you supplement then your body won't know to make more milk, so you'll always be short.

They suck. No doubt about it. Just have to go through the motions and hope they are short lived :)
  • Uugggg in the middle of the 3 weeker.... :(

    You are right. Thanks.
She finally slept last night 730-almost 11. Them was up every hour or so all night. Today seems a tiny bit better. Still eating a lot but did nap for about an hour which is more than I can say for yesterday.
These times really test you don't they?!
