  I think guest would like donuts but I would want LO to smash a cake. Just because I can't imagine a doughnut being near messy enough.

  I voted only cake because cake is the best and I'd be disappointed if there wasn't any cake for guests. . But really, do what will be fun and fitting for your family!

  I love the donuts idea, and I think adults will, too! As for LO, either is fine.
