How soon after birth did you DTD?

15 days postpartum and wanting to DTD with dh. I feel fine, barely spotting. Too soon still? Reading conflicting info. How long did you wait?

Plan on calling ob's office tomorrow, just trying to make it through tonight ;)

  • With my older two, I waited until well after the 6 weeks, too tired and not interested. I actually meant to ask yesterday at my 3 week appointment (they don't do 6 week check ups) yesterday but forgot. I'm likely to go past 6 weeks again.

  • Last time I was told to put nothing in the vagina, including my husband's penis, until after the 6 week checkup.  I assume the same holds true this time.  If I'm not bleeding any more and I feel up for it, I might not wait that long.  However, last time, I felt up for it at 5 weeks and DH refused until after my appt. I assume he'll feel the same way this time.

    Married DH 7/30/11

    CSC arrived 5/7/12

    CHC arrived 6/2/14

  • I would think 15 days is too soon. This is my third and they've told me every time to wait the 6 weeks.

With my first it was about 6 months (not a typo) but I had some healing issues so that is obviously not typical.. Hopefully this time it will not take me 6 months to get cleared!
  • 6 weeks but I bleed a full a 6 weeks

This x1000. I had a 3rd degree year and was like hellllll nooooo for 8 weeks or so. You are lucky!
  • I am so ready for my 6 weeks to be up! Only a few more days :) DH asked what position. Definitely going with missionary. I am scared it might hurt as I had a second degree tear. Also, I know what dtd refers to, but what does it stand for?

In retrospect that seems totally duh

  • Dtd is a bit different for me (that whole "no penis" thing lol) but with DD we waited closer to 12 weeks just because of comfort (I had a second degree tear).

My sister however is a freak of nature and only waited 6 DAYS after having her DD before she dtd. *shudders*

  • With my first I was told to wait until my 6 week checkup.  At that point I still had some pain, and was told to wait another 2 weeks and make sure the pain stopped.

I have no idea if the recommendations have changed for this time...

  • I'm waiting the 6 weeks to make sure doc clears me although I'm ready now.  I had no tears and have stopped bleeding and feel generally pretty good.  It's going to be a long 4 weeks.

  • I've always been given the general 6-week rule, however, this time I had no tearing and minimal bleeding. Not to mention I am insanely horny for some reason. My midwife said to give it at least 2 weeks and then see how I feel.

  • My OB cleared me at 4 weeks but we waited 6. It's best to wait until your OB clears you. Sex is great but pain or infection aren't! ;)

Married 6/28/08, TTC 7/10, BFP 11/30/11! Charlotte Rose born on 8/4/12! TFAS 8/13, BFP 10/14/13! Lori Anne Catherine born on 6/13/14!

  • I've heard 6 weeks or whenever bleeding stops from different sources.  I'd ask your doctor before you DTD.  As PP have pointed out, there's a possibility of infection to worry about.

Personally, we didn't try to DTD until 9-10 weeks (I wasn't cleared until then due to large tears that were taking their time healing) and we didn't successfully DTD until somewhere around 12-16 weeks.  Giving that extra healing time made a big difference in how comfortable it was.  So ladies with big tears, take your time.  It'll feel normal again eventually.

  • We'll no action for me. Started bleeding again (sorry if tmi).

I just really miss it. Been sooooo long. :(

When I had my dd the doc said when I felt up to it and stopped bleeding, this doc said to schedule a 6 wk check up but didn't really say what I could or couldn't do. I think I DTD 3-4 wks after having my dd. She was also early, 8 wks early, so I healed quickly.

  • 2 weeks with both of my two, against doc orders of course.
  • I was told the full 6 weeks because whether you have a vaginal or cesarean the cervix dilates and it needs time to fully close. The nurse describes losing the placenta like leaving a raw wound behind on the uterus and they don't want anything getting up there and potentially infecting anything.

If that's not a mood killer I don't know what is haha. I'd probably just take care of yourself *wink wink nudge nudge*

    All of this.

It's so much more than if you're still bleeding or not.  I'm not trying to second guess the advice from anyone's doctor/midwife though, so if you're following their recommendations then go on with your sexy selves, but I'll wait until after my 6 week PP check-up at minimum.

  • I made sure we DTD twice this week (which was more than we were having third trimester). I plan on waiting the full 6 weeks. If things get desperate, there's so many frisky things to do that don't include infection risk.

  • 6 weeks the first time around as well, probs the same this time

  • We waited 6 weeks last time per instruction of the doc. If you're really feeling up to it and you don't have any external damage (stitches etc...) I don't see why you couldn't get a little handsy with each other ;) I definitely wouldn't stick anything in there though.
  • We were told six weeks for anything in the vagina. We took that literally - doesn't mean we haven't done other things.

  • Pregnancy & nursing killed my drive last time, shaping up to be the same way this go 'round. Plus I was sore way longer than 6 weeks so he couldn't go as deep as we were used to. Eventually it got lovely again which explains why we are on baby #2 ;)
  • With DS1 I had an emergency c-section and was ready and willing at 2 weeks (actually maybe a little sooner) we waiting the full post partum time because DH wanted to be safe and make sure not to tear my stitches.

With DS2, who I VBAC'd, we tried at the 6 week mark but it was super painful as I'd experienced a level 4 tear, the worst possible. It took 6 months before I was physically up for things.

    DD will be a c-section.

You're allowed to afterwards? Sorry, probably sounds like a dumb question, I just wasn't sure that would be allowed.... Yeah, my copy of "Pregnancy For Dummies" doesn't tell me shit! :-S
