I'll start it up this week b/c I can actually contribute this week....

Hello Ladies,

Welcome to this week’s Hypnobabies and Hypnobirthing check-in! Quite a few ladies expressed an interest in doing a weekly check-in on Thursdays. Thanks to @elbug for getting this weekly check-in started!  Anyone can feel free to start this thread every Thursday.

1. Remind us: Which class are you taking & how are you taking the class - home study course vs in-person class?
2. What week of the course are you working on?
3. What challenges have you faced this week? Any concerns going forward?
4. What have you found most useful/helpful this week? Any tips for those of us who might be 1 or 2 weeks behind you?
5. Questions?

Re: Hypnobabies & Hypnobirthing Check-in

  • HypnoBabies Class - Week 1

I was concerned about much of a chore my H would think reading the script to me was.  I also had a little trouble getting over the cornyness of it all.  It wasn't so bad and last night I totally zoned out and didn't come back to until he counted me out (2nd time reading the script).  I'm trying to remember to finger drop 5 times a day, but I usually end up counting my script or deepening CD finger drop as at least one and then trying to cram 2-3 more in before sleep.

Questions: is anyone else having trouble getting over how corny some of it is?

    3. I am having trouble finding a comfortable pose early in the tracks where I can sit mostly still. It seems it takes me until halfway through the tracks to get a good spot. Once I do, not sure if I'm falling asleep or if I'm just so zoned out but I often find myself in a big pool of drool after the track ends.
    4. Stick with it. Not sure I can offer anymore than that at this time..
    5. So is it working since I'm zoning out/falling asleep? How do you find a truly comfortable position to be in for 30 minutes?  I feel so fidgety lately.

    5. Questions?  I've had the affirmations CD in my car this entire time just playing both tracks (pregnancy affirmations and birthing day affirmations) am I not supposed to be listening to the birthing day affirmations?  I actually like them more than the pregnancy ones.
Our instructor told us not to listen to the birthing day affirmations.  I think this is what we are supposed to listen to in the car on the way to the hospital, but I'm not sure yet.  I'm not sure what they say, but if they talk about how you are currenlty in labor, maybe it could confuse your "inner mind"?

I think the whole idea is to fight the urge to be fidgety and move and allow your body to be so limp that it just cannot move.  For instance, I drool too, and I feel it dripping down my mouth, but I have to fight the urge to wipe up.  I know, I'm so attractive.

    2. Week 2. I took the week off last week because it was my sister's wedding, and I knew I would not find the time to do the scripts. So, slow and steady....
    3. I need to figure out a better "set-up" for listening to the tracks. For a variety of reasons I don't have a good phone/iPod set-up, so I'm stuck listening on our stereo which is a pain in the butt. So I spend the first few minutes being annoyed about that, LOL. Also, I KNOW I fell asleep two nights ago, and then woke up in the middle of next week's track! So hopefully my subconscious mind isn't all screwed up....
    4. Practicing the finger drop technique has been really easy, although I haven't been doing 5 times a day. But it makes me feel like I'm making progress to integrate it more throughout the day. No tips, though... just keep going, I guess!
    5. How do you normally sit/lie to listen? I've tried sitting, lying down, halfway lying down, etc. It's hard to feel "fully supported" without laying down completely, but then I just fall asleep!

  • Hello all! I'll check in here sporadically when I remember to :)

    1. I'm doing Hypnobabies Home Study
    2. Working on Week 2
    3. I've not done my workbook lesson yet. I listen to the tracks before bed and fall asleep everytime. Therefore I am learning nothing.
    4. Even though I fall asleep - the tracks help me to sleep so much better! I love it for that purpose. Although I'm sure I won't fall asleep while birthing, so I may need to rearrange my listening schedule.
    5. I'm having trouble "practicing" the finger drop technique - obviously I can go through the motion of it - but what am I actually practicing - turning off my mind? instantly relaxing? I don't get it.

    1st pregnancy! Due 8/25/2014

I lay down during the "deepening" track.  Our  instructor said really it's okay to fall asleep during it.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one drooling. I've never had a pool that big before- it was quite impressive. I made H turn over and admire it.

    1. Remind us: Which class are you taking & how are you taking the class - home study course vs in-person class? Hypnobabies home study

    2. What week of the course are you working on? Week 3

    3. What challenges have you faced this week? Any concerns going forward? This week's been very busy, so I've missed a couple of days of listening. Other than that, I'm feeling good about it.

    4. What have you found most useful/helpful this week? Any tips for those of us who might be 1 or 2 weeks behind you? I'm not the first one to say this, but I've found that my own visualizations are more effective than the bright light/safe space suggestions on the tracks. Letting my mind go where it wants to has helped a lot.

    5. Questions? Nope.

@mdarmetko - like @MrsDuarte8185 and @Elbug, the corniness was weird at first, but I can ignore it now. Someone in my prenatal yoga class asked me about Hypnobabies, and I gave her a heads up about the corniness and suggested that she just try to accept that Hypnobabies has its own vocabulary.

  • 1) Hypnobabies Homestudy

    2) Finishing Week 1

    3) Can't get DH to participate

    4) I normally listen during my lunch breaks becuase it's the only segment of time I can make sure I won't be bothered.

    5) Questions: I see other people saying in week one they are practicing finger drop...I don't see anything about that in my class reading. Am I overlooking something?

  • @workmm01

Finger drop technique is in Week 2. Perhaps some are working ahead?
  • workmm01herecomesthesun I'm taking the class, not doing the homestudy, and the finger drop is week 1.  Maybe the classes and homestudy are set-up differently?  Before the class began, we were instructed to listen to 1 of 2 tracks for weeks (I did it for 8-9 weeks), so perhaps the homestudy course are an intro and those tracks.
