edited June 2014 in July 2013 Moms
I know there has been discussion about this and also about when will J13 start TTC... many are KU or TTC already!! :D

But, how much age difference is there between your 1st and 2nd... and if you haven't had the second, what are your plans?

Re: how much age difference between 1st and 2nd LO?

  • Oh no!! I pressed Enter before I wrote all the options :'(

I can't edit now... so just ignore the poll part and tell me :D

I was thinking 3 year difference, but now I think I will try to talk DH into 2 year difference... I would like the 2nd LO to be a summer baby too, it was easy and the grandmas where free to visit.

  • My oldest two are 3 years and 6 weeks apart. I worked in hospital and many doctors and nurses said 3 years is a good number. Liam is 10 years and 3 months younger than my middle child. I would like to get pregnant now only because I am 34 and don't want to wait 3 years.

  • DD and DS are 27 months apart. Now that DD is very mobile and plays with toys, it is so fun to see her and DS play together. I am really hoping with this age difference that they are close with each other.

  • 5.5 years between Belle and E. I would like 2-3 years (closer to 2) between baby 2 and 3.
  • 2 yrs between DS1 and DS2, then 2.5 years before DD.

  • Okay, before last night (and I swear this is cuz of d.d. turning 11months this morning, and knowing she'll be a yr. in exactly a month and a toddler, not that Last First Year article, l.o.l.) I was thinking we'd start trying either the end of April or beginning of May 2016 or 2017.  Now I would start if we had the space here.  So I guess when we move (we're gonna start looking next yr.), we'll start trying again.  Also not sure what that's gonna entail (straight to a f.e.t. cycle? some time trying naturally since d.h. had a varicocele embolization?).  I've been wanting to make an appt. w/our r.e. to see about all that before d.d. turned a yr. anyway, and now I want to go like today, l.o.l.
  • We're thinking about 3 years apart so we can start ttc next summer.
  • We'll start TTC when she's 2, aiming to have them about 3 years apart.

  • I love reading the different age gaps and hoe any of them were good for you... why would you recommend your age gap?

    @MRads‌, congratulations to your h! :D

  • @ramy3695‌ would you say a 2 year gap is easier on the mom? What was the difficulty?

@sandraynic‌ thanks! I want to go out and buy ALL the things! But we have a plan to be debt free, blah, blah, blah. It will help with having a second kid, though.

I wanted them closer to 2 years but it didn't work out that way. I think having a newborn and an almost/newly three year old was very very very hard.

I second this. The age difference (2 years 8 months) was really difficult for me.
  • All three of mine wee just a few months shy of 3 years apart. We got pregnant with #2 and #3 right around the lo's 2nd birthday. It was very stressful at first but I really like the spacing now. There is never a dull moment for sure!

  • My brother, sister and I are all 3 years apart. Brother = 38, me = 35, Sister = 32. We really liked that gap, and it was lucky because I played 'boy games' (Star Wars, Lego spaceships, GI Joe vs. My Little Pony) with my brother, and 'girl games' (Barbie, real My Little Pony, fashion show) with my sister. My two were supposed to be closer to 3 years apart.... But, you know. ;)

  • I think we will start TTC when LO is almost 2 years old. So they would be about 2.5 to 3 years apart ideally. That is similar to my sister and I.

If I could choose everything I would like to have a late spring baby (April or May), because that works best for me for maternity leave. But I'd be happy with another little healthy baby anytime! :)
  • I liked the 2 1/2 year age difference because DD was potty trained by the time DS was born. I dont want another summer baby though. The newborn stage with DS was ruogh and I feel I didn't do enough with DD outside last year. We have a little beach right down the road and we only made it once last summer.

Mine will be about 11 months apart and I have no idea how to feel about that yet.  :D

If things had gone according to plan there probably would have been about 2-3 years between.  I liked this amount of time because my big little brother is 5 years younger than me and we get along great (now that we're older), but I'm not quite as close to my other little brother who is 8 years younger than me.. so I felt like the closer the better, especially if we end up wanting a third.

I may have taken that a little too far, however.. ;)

  • 3ish years; I'd like to start TTC July-Aug 2015. But it will largely depend on what kind of job I (hopefully!) end up in next year, and how soon I can start working.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts!
DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome.
131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
  • If we decide to have another, I'd like to start trying in January. I'd only try for 6 months and if it didn't happen, we would be OAD. It's more about wanting to be done having kids by a certain age more than anything

They will be 13 months apart. We probably would have waited 3-4 years but they'll be much closer, oops!

  • We've talked about TTC May 2015, if it happens right away like it did with LO they will be 2.5 years apart.
My sister and I are 6.5 years apart and we never really had much of a relationship until I was in my late teens. I want my kiddo's to be friends.

  • We will be ttc in December/January. I want a fall baby and am pulling the goalie in November. I'm hoping for 2- 2.5 years between DD2 and #3. DD1 and DD2 are 2 yrs 10.5mos and it was pretty difficult at times. I think she was too old in terms of having too much possession of her things, routine and people. I definitely don't want them any further than 3yrs.

  • Owen and Liam are 4 years, 1 month apart.

Liam and Thomas are 2 years, 9 months apart.

Thomas and Finn are 21 months apart.

I liked the shortest spacing the best.

Mine are 2 yrs 5 mo apart and I liked that spacing quite a bit. DD was potty trained, out of her crib, done with all the other baby gear we'd need, and somewhat independent which was nice. She could also do simple tasks when I asked (ie getting me a diaper) and wanted to help.

Also, they are still close enough in age that they enjoy playing with one another already and I hope that will continue at least for a couple years. Plus they'll have more in common growing up than if there was a huge age gap.
