Anxiety Sufferers

I've always been somewhat of an anxious person, but lately it has gotten out of control.  I had a sinus infection a few months back and started having daily headaches.  They seemed to be getting worse and not going away after taking medicine.  I convinced myself I had a brain tumor, aneurysm or some other serious condition.  The doctor did a CT which of course came back clear only showing sinus issues.  Since then I have still been having headaches and the doctor thinks it's tension and chronic sinus issues.  To add to that I have been having a weird tight feeling in my ankle and panic attacks.

I just started taking Sertraline (generic Zoloft) and the past few nights I have woken up with burning pain down one arm or the other from my armpit to my fingers.  Of course now I have convinced myself I have something else wrong with me.  I have only been taking the meds for 3 days, but today I feel super anxious and jittery. Anyone else have experience with anxiety and taken medicine with similar reactions?  If you don't feel comfortable posting here, please PM me.

Re: Anxiety Sufferers

  • The tightness in my ankle is random, the pain in my arms is generally only at night.

I can't tell if my anxiety is bringing on more symptoms or if they are real issues.

I wouldn't say I'm anxious, but I internalize a LOT of stress. I've had oddball physical manifestations of stress for years (they come and go).

-feeling like there's a lump in my throat
    -TMJ issues
    -crazy headaches
    -joint pain
    -random heart arrhythmia

I've had spinal tap, holter monitoring, tested for rheumatoid arthritis, etc and everything comes back totally normal.

When I was having the TMJ episode, the neurologist gave me Xanax and poof! Symptoms instantly improved. I didn't take it long, because TTGP, but once I'm done BFing and if I'm still having some strange physical manifestations, then I'm going to think about asking to be put back on it.

I try not to freak out when something new crops up (the joint pain is a new one for me). By now, I pretty much credit everything odd to stress so long as it's not debilitating or accompanied by other symptoms.

  • I would go back to the dr and get a different medicine. I had a similar reaction to Zoloft and it turned out I was allergic to it. Good luck!
  • I suffer from anxiety a lot and honestly the only thing I have found that helps is exercise, the side effects from pills were awful so I had to find a different outlet. I do understand that everyone is different. This is also strange but look into the foods you are eating I get horrific headaches from foods with MSG, specifically chicken from Zaxbys and Chick FIl A so maybe check into something like that. Good luck and I'm sorry you are going through this.

  • I keep meaning to check with my dr because I'm definitely feeling some PPA, I think. Well either that or just regular old A from having two kids. No advice though, just hugs.
