Drinking problem ;)

LO likes to take a big mouthful of water or milk from his sippy cup and let it all dribble down his chin instead of drinking it. He does it with all his cups, including straws and open cups. Anyone else have a LO who does this? Any ideas for getting him to stop?

  • Well, good to know I'm not alone, but sorry you are dealing with it too :(

  • I think it's just entertaining to them and you'll probably have to wait it out until they get bored. I don't think there's a way to get them to understand not to at this age

  • I thought I was the only one!!! Grayson does it with any cup except his bottles! I read that they do it because they get too much in their mouth at one time. Right now I've just been giving Grayson bottles for whatever he is drinking and I'll reintroduce the sippy cup again in a few weeks. We haven't had much luck with sippy cups :(

  • He does it too. I think his mind is it's like a bottle. Have to chug it all at once, get's too much in his mouth and since he's sitting up, it all goes down his chin. You figure if they do that with the bottle they'd choke, so it's a non issue. Once he figures out he can slow down and take drinks, it will get better.
  • LO does this too - but mostly when he's not really thirsty.  As long as he's really wanting what's in the cup, he'll drink fine.  Otherwise, it's just a toy - and letting it dribble out of your mouth is apparently fun!

  • Yes! DD does it too. But only with her sippy cup. A bottle or a regular cup is no problem.

  • DD does this too. But at some point my dad did encourage her.
