3rd Trimester

Feel like something is stuck in my throat...

Yesterday after lunch I felt like I had something stuck in my throat. I drank some milk, and it didn't go away. Obviously I don't have anything physically stuck there, but it feels like I do. It was horrible, because I was really hungry last night, and I ate dinner to appease my appetite, but my throat issue stayed the same I feel like I just have food sitting there, and it literally feels like if I bend over I will be sick. I took a few Tums last night thinking that would help. Woke up this morning and it's still the same. Has anyone else had this? What is it? And what can I do to make it go away?

  • You could actually have something small stuck in your espohagus.

Have you tried drinking a hot beverage to help it dissolve?

  • That's what mild heartburn feels like to me.   Gaviscon seems to help.

  • My friend had the same thing for her second and third trimester of both of her pregnancies. For her (and for other pregnant women) it was a symptom of acid reflux. She didn't even feel like she had acid reflux, just something in her throat. I'd still mention it to your OB just in case, but there's a good chance that's what it is.

  • I had this too before I was pregnant. My doc actually said it was a symptom of anxiety.
  • It's part of having acid reflux. It sucks so bad.
  • Ask your doctor, but you could have something stuck. You could also have GERD. Zantac 150mg twice a day helped alleviate that feeling for me.

    Try a hot beverage.

Gargle the hottest you can stand water with as much salt as you can tolerate. That can disinfect your throat/mouth etc. Avoid minty things as they can irritate the stomach & esophagus.

  • I had the same feeling like something was stuck in my throat every time I swallowed for a month or so and it turned out to be a tonsil stone! I was able to get it out on my own but it was a challenge.
  • Acid reflux. My co-worker recently had this issue and I told her acid reflux. Took some pepcid ac or something like that-- totally gone. Check with your PCP. It happened to me at one point!
