Re: Multiple Csections?

  • This will be my 3rd. My girlfriend is pg with # 5 and this will be her 4th c/s.

  • My MW told me that the number of c/s it is safe to have is completely dependent on the individual woman and how her uterus deals with the scar tissue. She said it's not uncommon for the OBs doing the RSCs she attends (where I live, a MW is legally required to be present at all births, so they are also there during c/s, although of course they don't operate) to tell women after their 3rd c/s that the uterine wall around the scar was very thin and they would advise against further pregnancies. She also said, though, that she has attended c/s where the woman was advised against more children after only her 2nd c/s, and plenty where even after 3 the OB said it was fine to have more. In other words -- there's no way to know for sure how it will be for you!

BFP1: DD1 born April 2011 at 34w1d via unplanned c/s due to HELLP, DVT 1 week PP
    BFP2: 3/18/12, blighted ovum, natural m/c @ 7w4d
BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w4d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence

  • I had 3 c-sections and each one was a very different experience. My 3rd was by far the easiest with the fastest recovery. I only stayed one night in the hospital. I had been really worried because I'd heard other women on here say their 3rd was the worst.

Thank you so much for posting this. I suppose I'll have to discuss this with the OB doing my section. I appreciate your input!
  • I've had 3 sections. All went well. DH and I have always planned on 4 kiddos. My OB is kind of cocky but in a funny kind of way. He's got a great sense of humor. Anyway, he told me I could have as many rcs as I wanted as long as he's doing them cause he's that good and I have no scar tissue. But basically he said the same as others are saying. It all depends on how much scar tissue you have.
  • I am pregnant with my 3rd as well. My first child was an emergency c section and my second child had so many complications that she could not tolerate labor. I made the zipper comment to my OB as well because I planned on having more. I am 16 weeks and this time I am noticing pulling sensations around my scar that I didn't notice with my 2nd. Do you experience these sensations?
  • This will be my 3rd C/S as well.  My 1st was an emergency and the second a RCS.  Recovery is pretty easy for me at least it was for the last two hoping for that this time around too.
  • I am pregnant with my fourth. I have had CS with my three. I am very early, however, my OB told me I shouldn't have anymore after my third because of the risks involved. I know someone personally who has had 9 CS, and multiple people who have had 4 or more. It makes me nervous, because I haven't told my OB yet. I need comforting! :P
  • Totally dependent on the person.  I'm having my 3rd and final.

  • I am recovering from my 3rd routine CS just 4 days ago. All my CS have had ok (slow but fine) recoveries - same goes for this one, although I am recovering a bit faster this 3rd time around. My dr told me I can have as many as I want, also - we are hoping to have a 4th in a couple yrs and he said it's fine. My kids are all 3u3 - close together - also, fine. Guess it depends on the person and what your OB says.
  • My OB is very liberal and said my uterus bounces back well. I have hardly any scar tissue and am usually up and walking to the bathroom within 12 hours. I've had 4 and am PG with the 5th. We will see what she says when she gets in there, but I am hoping to be able to decide for MYSELF when my last pregnancy is. It makes me sad to think of those who don't have that choice.
  • I have had 3CS. First was an emergency and the other two had no choice but to go CS. I will be 36 weeks tomorrow and getting ready to have my 4th. My Dr said the same thing, depends on the woman. I will say I'm a little nervous about this one but my Dr has assured me that everything looks great.
  • Really excited to pregnant with our 7th!! Yay!!! Having had 6 previous c/s...#7 will definitely not be a vbac ;)
  • I had my 3rd and final in March.  Everything went just fine. My recovery was good except for the bad yeast infection.
  • I'm due in October with LO#4 (mobile mommies my kiddos are 4.5, 2.5 and 13 months right now) and I made sure to ask during DD#3's RCS if another pregnancy was safe. She said without a doubt I was fine... Now we're done after this (actually signed the paperwork at 10 weeks before we knew gender) so I dunno if they would have let me have more. All my kids have been born at the same hospital with the same set of docs (#2 and #3 were the same doc even!)

I'm also a proud Auntie to a crazy little girl, her brand new baby sister, a little man on his way in the next month, and a sweet little mister we will miss forever!!!
  • I'm almost 16 weeks pregnant with #4. This will be my 4th section. And my last as I will have a tubal when this baby is delivered. My OB felt that I was ok to have one more.
