"For George Weasley, every mirror is the Mirror of Erised."
Let that shit sink in.
Then go grab the kleenex and start crying like a little girl.

To my boys: I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
I finished this book finally the other day and all along I've been waiting and waiting to be able to chat HP with everyone but Fred dying really killed a part of me and I'm still very sullen about it.
I put the book down and walked away for a few days.
Fred was my favorite.
The mirror of erised thing has had me feeling sad all evening.
I was shocked that Remus and his wife died leaving behind their son. It kinda gave me a deja vu of Harry and his parents.
That's what I got from this too, but I got the feeling it was JK Rowling's way of saying that this time it would be different. Ted wouldn't grow up without any positive influence since Harry and Ginny made it a point to bring him around their house so often whereas Harry had to endure the Dursleys.

I was legit pissed at how the movie handled his death. It took 1 second, dead, then the next you see of him is in the great hall. As much as I was torn up by his book death, I really liked the way it played out.
While I hated that he died in one sense, I think it is also important to the story. I mean, with all the fighting going on in the castle, it wasn't realistic to think that the large Weasley family would all make it out alive. So I think someone in their family had to die- and it had to be a character that we really cared about (ie. not Percy). To make it a twin was a punch in the gut, but that's what brought home just how violent and scary that last battle was and ultimately, the heavy price that was paid to defeat V.
Teddy lived with his Grandmother, who was loving and awesome and so he wasn't neglected or anything. He also had the love and support of many other people.
As for the books being fair or good or having the end justify the means... I felt like that was the point. All this horrible shit happens and all these lives ruined and SO MUCH SADNESS because of this one evil man and the people who followed him. It's all just a waste.
I'm going to come out with it and say I really hate the movies. I just do. Especially the people that were cast for Sirius and Lupin. I'm sure everyone has an idea in their head of what they were like and the actors just failed me big time.

Damn you Warner Bros!!!
YOU ARE INSANE.
GARY OLDMAN WAS THE PERFECT SIRIUS.

You can't compare the books to the movies. You just can't.
They have to be seen as their own entities.
This is like comparing apples and applesauce. Both come from the same tree, but one is treated differently and therefore isn't as solid as the other.

I can't help it. I had this picture of them in my head and that wasn't it. It has nothing to do with the actors themselves and everything to do with my ridiculous expectations.
Well in the interests of not comparing, don't do what I did and watch the movie right after finishing reading your favorite book.
Honestly though- I think the movies are pretty good but can't imagine trying to follow some of the stuff without the books to back it up, especially 6&7. But that's still probably the bias of feeling like stuff is missing rather than connecting a slightly different narrative.
Yeah, this is why I gave up after book 4. From then I started watching the movies in their own timeline, for lack of a better word, instead of the books timeline.
Once they decided not to explain the origins of the Marauders Map, I knew it was time to back off of the comparisons and let my blood pressure settle back down to normal.

The only casting choice I didn't care for was Michael Chambon as Dumbledore. Richard Harris wasDumbledore. It wasn't until the 6th movie that I liked new Dumbledore.
Seriously, tho.
Kenneth Branagh as Lockhart? Nailed it.
Dame Maggie Smith as McGonagall? Nailed it.
Imelda Staunton as Umbridge? Fucking nailed it.

DH read first then watched the movies and complained through them all. I watched them all first then read. I really enjoy the movies and everything makes much more sense after reading the books so I think I just enhanced my experience.
I had a bad experience with Secret Garden when I was little. I read first then watched and was very disappointed. I vowed to always watch the movie first.
I fan girl the shit out of him. And Gary Oldman. I don't think you could've found a better Sirius. His death was the hardest for me- I loved everything about his character and wanted Harry to be with him.
I love the movies, but I treat them as something else. I'm that annoying bitch to watch them with because I keep saying "they left this out, etc" and explain why the books are superior.
I think one of the reasons I love these books so much is because they don't end up perfect. If none of them died, I just don't think it would be the same.
I don't have a tattoo, but have often thought of getting one. Top choice would be a small white lightening bolt. Not on my forehead, though
The books are a part of who I am and the movies are just good movies when not compared to the books BUT, there was one thing about the movies that I couldn't get passed.
In the third movie they DIDN'T EVEN MENTION that Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs were in fact, Lupin, Pettigrew, Black and Potter. That was kind of a BFD in my opinion. In the movie they just, like, pretended that somehow Sirius and Remus just knew that the parchment was a map and that it never lied.
But they failed to mention that they WERE the Marauders.

I had the same problem with secret garden! The movie garden was soooo disappointing
Re: Harry Potter gets you right in the feels (Spoilers through book 7)
Fred's death was the hardest for me, by far, in all the books.
I keep wanting to yell "take Percy! He's a git!"
I put the book down and walked away for a few days.
