Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Nap Time Woes

My LO will be 4 months old on June 18th. For the past few days, I have been trying to get him on a napping schedule. It has been very difficult. I am reading Elizabeth Pantley's "No Cry Nap Solution". My son has always napped in a swing during the day. A couple of days ago, we moved his swing into his room next to his crib like the book suggested. After he eats, we play for about an hour or so and then when he shows signs of being tired, we go up to his room, I put his sound machine on, we read a book and then I put him in his swing drowsy.

The problem is that no matter where he naps, he always wakes up after only 20-30 minutes. I go in and put his paci back in and he usually drifts back off to sleep. Inevitably, he wakes up every 3 or 4 minutes after that once he realizes his paci is no longer in his mouth. The problem is that he cannot keep the paci in for more than a few seconds due to having a weak suck. Anyone have any ideas how I can lengthen his naps or why he wakes up after only a short time? I am at my wits end. I usually end up going in his room and sitting with him almost the entire nap time. I can't get anything done around the house!

I have a cat napper too. Some sleep books say that babies may start to extend their naps around 3-4 months while others state that some babies are just cat-nappers. It's tough getting things done in 30 mins but I'm starting to accept that my LO is a cat-napper. That's helping with my napping anxieties. If he end up taking longer naps later, great but I'm trying not to stress. I just watch for sleepy cues, put him down for naps, get a tiny chore done and then he's up! If I have a lot to do, I'll wear him and attack the chore. As for the pacifier, have you seen those wubbanubs? They're pacis attached to a little plush which just sits on baby's chest. My friend got my LO one but he doesn't take pacis. GL, cat-nappers are tough!
