Parenting after a Loss

How to lose the baby weight

I know I'm only 5 weeks PP, and it took me 7 months to get to my prepregnancy weight with DS...but I really don't want to have to buy new work clothes again. I did this last time when I went back and I am not even close to fitting into them, so basically my motivation is that I do not want to spend $$$ on a new work wardrobe which I hope to be too thin for at some point when I do lose the baby weight (I bought bigger clothes when I went back last time and then a few months later I lost the weight and they were too big and they sat in storage for a year).

The problem is I have started walking/jogging 2 miles a day 3-4 times a week, have cut out all snacks, and generally eat well, and I'm losing NOTHING. I have not even lost half a pound in three weeks. We eat a lot of salad for dinner...my lunch is always a turkey sandwich (making up for 9 months of no deli meat) and a pear or a peach or some Sun Chips...I really don't want to diet and accidentally kill my milk supply...what else can I do? I guess I could work out every day? What has worked for you ladies?

Re: How to lose the baby weight

  • I started losing weight naturally around 3 months PP, I think I've read that that's around when the weight loss associated with BFing starts to kick in. And I mean I was eating LOTS and not exercising and still losing. Now around 6 months it's tapered off and I think I'll have to lose the rest the old fashioned way but I would say hang in there for now and wait a few more weeks, I bet you will start to see some progress on the scale.

  • I honestly think it takes time and all depends on your body. It's so frustrating :(

I lost 25lbs in the blink of an eye (3w pp) and the scale has not budged since. I have 12lbs to lose from this pregnancy and another 15lbs from the 2 mc's I had prior to this pregnancy (I spent a year and a half pregnant and gaining weight), so 27lbs to go to even dream of fitting back into my clothes. I had been walking 2-6 miles every day after my c-section until I was given the ok at 7w pp to start working out again. I did CrossFit until the day I delivered and just started back up last week. Scale, hips, everything still isn't budging. Here's hoping the weight will start coming off at the "magic" 3 month mark when our supply is fully established, we're consistently working out and our body can start to let go of the extra weight.

    ~~Everyone Always Welcome~~

  • Thanks ladies! I did not know about the magic three month number! I was getting all irritated because I thought BFing was supposed to burn all these calories and here I am eating healthy, walking/jogging and BFing and I have not lost an ounce in weeks. I didn't realize our body holds onto the weight until supply is established. It's nice to know I'm not alone in this struggle although I certainly wish the pounds would melt away for all of us!! GL to everyone in reaching your goals!!

  • I found it next to impossible to lose weight in the first couple months pp. I was BFing, running 3m a day, really watching what I ate... and nothing happened. It was really frustrating. I don't think I really started losing weight until about 6m pp and even then it was very gradual. Like a pound every couple weeks. It took me a year to lose all the weight (47lbs).

This time I'm not leaving without you.
  • I am right there with you, at a total stand still not losing anything the past two weeks yet the first 15 lbs melted off. I'm also walking and eating healthy, waiting for the doctor to clear me to start jogging. I think we just need to give it time. The BF-ing definitely helps, so just keep doing what you're doing! Also, I'm sure you are but drink tons of water. Don't be so hard on yourself!

  • I think all the ladies have offered awesome advice that it can just take time. I'm also trying a bellefit this time and a shrinkx hips. Not sure how much of a difference they will make. I'm only a week or so PP.
