straining to poop @ 3 1/2 weeks old - normal?

LO has been straining before pooping the last week or so. Not right when it comes out (audible squirts) but several to a few minutes before. It often wakes her up and she seems rather uncomfortable. Sometimes she spits up while straining too. Some things I've read suggest this id normal as they ate learning how to control and coordinate those fun sphincter muscles, and she had a pedi appointment in 2 days so ill ask then too but in the meantimr - thoughts from any of you in the BTDT category would be very welcome!

She is EBF. Poop is almost always yellow brown and is always runny. I think she poops about 10 times a day. It seems like too often to count especially since she HATES diaper changed and screams bloody murder every time.

    Yes, we are having the same problem. Yesterday was pretty rough but I can definitely tell it is because he is trying to poop. Dr said it's normal but I still hate to see him in pain like that!

    My first was like that until almost a year, including the spitting up. Happened while ebf and got a little better over time, and then it came back with the addition of solids. I'm already starting to see it in my three day old so we'll see.
