I am going to start pumping after LO's morning feed to start building a stash. When I pump, do I pump both breasts or do I pump the one LO doesn't use? I want to make sure I won't hurt my supply for when LO is ready to nurse again. Thanks!
Up to you. Your baby is mor efficient than the pump and will still be able to get milk after you pump. After a few days your supply will increase to compensate anyway. It more depends on how much milk you want to pump.
I normally pump both because I'm still pretty engorged after the morning feed. I would start with the one he didn't feed from first and see how much you get, then do a little from the other one if you're concerned. Sometimes I think my boobs have nothing left but when I squeeze the nipple milk comes out, and DS has no problem nursing after I pump. This morning he was still hungry so after I stashed 7 oz ( I was really engorged today because he barely are through the night) I had to feed him again and there was still plenty left.
I asked the lactation consultant this and she said your body will make more if you pump both at the same time. I like doing one at a time.. So I'm still deciding what I want to do!
