Burping

Why is my child so hard to burp? I am not delicate about it either. I literally can burp her for 20 min and nothing, but the second I set her down she acts like she needs to burp. Especially in the MOTN. Makes me crazy! Anyone else have a bad burper?

Re: Burping

  • try rubing your fingers up either side of her spine with just a little pressure. That along with gently rubbing up on her back sometimes helps. My dd holds in her burps. I feel your pain.

  • I do. It's very frustrating. I've looked at videos online and read everything there is to read, but can't find the "magic" solution. Going to ask my pedi at our appt next week.
  • We do the milkshake from happiest baby on the block. I've also found that if I pat for a minute and then stop, it comes out a few seconds later.

Ooo, I'm trying those.  I have trouble with getting him to burp too.
  • If my DS doesn't burp within 30 seconds then I continue feeding him or put him down. If I jar him too much then he will spit up everything I just fed him. So no tips or techniques here.'

  • The only way my little guy will burp is if I bounce him lightly on my knee.
  • Mine burps if I stand up, walk a bit, then sit down. Something about that up then down brings up the burp.
  • Don't know whether it was this forum or another one that I saw this video link posted but this is the magic burping technique I now use.. Always works!

I've also found my dd will sometimes burp if I out her on my knee and sit her up and pat her back. Doesn't always work but sometimes it will. I also agree with getting up and walking around, as well as going up/down the stairs.

I do this too and when sitting her on my knee I'll lean her way forward and backward. Sometimes that works out a stubborn burp.

  • DH tips DD partly upside down backward to try to move air bubbles around. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Can also try gas drops to help gas bubbles combine into bigger ones so there's a bit less burping needed overall.
