NWMR - Wine Clubs

Are any of you members of a wine club or are you signed up for a wine delivery service such as wine.com's steward-ship program?  I keep seeing adds for Club W but wondering if anyone has an recommendations on a wine delivery service that offers good recommendations and prices?

Like pp, we do the wine clubs of our favorite wineries from our trips to Napa/Sonoma.  They are all different, but our favorite winery we get one case a year (you can get all at once or spread out over the year), but then they always do a 50% off sale once or twice a year.  I LOVE that sale and usually get another case or more.  Not sure if you've ever been to Napa/Sonoma, but being a wine club member has perks!  We get free tastings and VIP treatment when we go to the wineries we're members at.

The other wine club we do is through out local wine bar.  They do a half case a month, and the owner picks all sorts of varietals you won't find in stores around here.  I love that club for the variety and trying something new.  And you can't beat 6 bottles for $60.  The wine bar is our favorite restaurant, so we're there all the time and I trust the quality we get through the club.  There have been several months where he throws in a bottle worth double what the club advertises.

    damn.  now i want wine!

  • If you haven't checked I tot he laws in your state and also whether the particular wine club can ship to your state, make sure to do that. I have lived in several states where you can't receive wine in the mail...really stunk when we visited napa and couldn't ship any home for ourselves...

I live in MD and our first trip to Napa was like this.  The vineyards couldn't ship to us, but we could ship it to ourselves.  So, we just gathered everything we purchased and shipped ourselves a few cases.  Laws are weird!  They have since changed and now at least in MD they can ship directly to you.

  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies!  You reminded me that there were a few wineries that I loved in Sonoma (this was years ago).  I may just visit their websites to see if I can't sign up from there or it seems like finding a more local wine shop/club might be the better option.

What intrigued me about something like Club W was that they suggested wines based off of a questionnaire you fill out.  I usually stick to pinots and syrahs so I thought it would help me branch out a bit!  But, it seemed like you had to commit to monthly deliveries so I thought I would see if anyone else has tried it before I took the plunge.  @casey78, would love to hear your review!  It would also be interesting to see how their prices differ from my local wine store.

We live in CO so I haven't had any issues getting wine delivered in the past (just one time orders from wine.com).  Glad the laws are more relaxed now!
