He arrived via scheduled 'preventative' (Drs term) c section. It was a hard decision to go with a c section for me, but ultamately glad I did!
Reason behind this was because I had bad 4th degree tearing with my DD. She was an average size (7 lb 15 oz) however she had a huge head and really didn't fit well through my pelvis. Lots of bruising on her, intense tearing for me, 2 1/2 hrs of pushing, almost be taken for a section.....
SO when dr (different from DD) discussed past birth history she brought up that a c section would be something she'd be willing to so if I wanted. She also had told me that once you have a 4th tear, your more likely to 1- tear like that again and 2- have lasting damage (bowel incontence - eek!) So when this LO had measured by belly measure, feel (you could feel only baby in my belly) and ultrasound to be large and already had a head size in the 95th %ile, I thought it might be worth it if we could avoid laboring just to end in a section or an emergency situation to get him out. (Also not controlling when you poo doesn't sound like fun)
So went in for the section Friday mid morning. Got bumped back an hour due to an emergency, and then had baby! Good thing we planned this one, Rhys came out 10lbs 3oz and 21in long! (Still a week early by EDD) And of course has a big head

He is amazing, of course, and we are so loving our little boy! So far recovery for me hasn't been any worse than recovering from vaginal birth with DD. It's far less messy, swollen to sit and painful to sit, but this one is a little harder to bend over or get up. I had a lot of fears about nursing with this one because nursing with DD was so hard and aweful, and because I hear more people struggle with it after a section. But Rhys is a little champ! He is one hungry boy and gets the job done. Only thing going on for us is we still are having his bilirubin measured. He's been hovering right below needing treatment and tomorrow at his next apt we will do one more blood draw (also did one today) I know jaundice is not huge deal but any thoughts and prayers that he can just finally kick this and start feeling a little more lively, would be appreciated!
Okay on to the good part, pictures!!
