Crohns and third tri

Anyone with crohns experiencing symptoms returning in third tri? It's hard to tell what is baby or what is caused by baby and what is crohns related at this point and I know as you get closer to labor your body can sometimes clear you out so to speak. Last Thursday i had contraction like pain for a few hours (constant back pain with some back and stomach tightening) and it seems like ever since I've had issues. I see my gastrointestinal doctor tomorrow but if i bring up the symptoms I'm sure he'll put me on more drugs.

:( i felt awesome in second tri...

  • Hmph...that sucks. I wouldn't really consider it to be a flareup. I'm still better than pre pregnancy but I'm definitely experiencing symptoms.

  • Could your doctor order some bloodwork (SED rate and CBC)to see if it indicates you're in a flare?

I have Crohn's but I'm totally useless to answer your question because I've had an ostomy for a zillion years now so I didn't really notice anything different when I was pregnant. The tightening you describe could be Braxton-Hicks contractions, and or course back pain is common. Hopefully that's all it is! Good luck.

  • Well i saw my GI. He wasn't quit as happy with me as he has been in the past but he was comfortable having me stay on my current meds and said i could take some immodium if i felt the need. I haven't seen any blood which is usually my sign of a flare. I feel like it my be due to hormones. I'm starting to even out now so hopefully the symptoms will calm down.

this.  I have ulcerative colitis and sometimes I'm not sure where the pains/cramps are coming from...my intestinal gut or my baby gut.  so confusing and scary!

  • Hi,

I do not have crohns but have been dealing with flare ups due to a parasitic infection. Just entering my second trimester now. All through the first trimester I was told it wouldn't affect the baby because some women lose a lot of weight due to morning sickness. What drugs can you be put on to lessen the diarrhea...also what have your doctors told you in terms of preterm labour from diarrhea? I've been told not take immodium because in a flare up I need the bacteria out so I don't cause an infection.
