December 2014 Moms

So. End of the year festivities

I can't believe I'm thinking about this already. DH's work sent out a save the date for their annual dinner. Which is always an amazing delicious booze filled blow out. It's December 6. My edd is December 14th. They asked us to RSVP now. So, I told DH to RSVP yes but make sure to let his work know that it's conditional. I'm not entirely sure I'll want to go at 39 weeks pregnant (and not able to drink, wah!) but then again I may. I'm torn between hoping I have this kiddo a little earlier or that he/she holds off. Given my health issues I know my OB is going to push to have me deliver right around then. I guess we'll see.

Any of you already thinking of this stuff? What are your plans?

Same as every year. I will probably be home, in the bed, asleep. Hopefully with a 2-3 day old noob laying beside me.

  • DH's work will have a Christmas party. If I am pregnant I will go. If I had lo, I probably wouldn't go.

  • We live 3k miles from DH's office, so he gets a $200 allowance for a super fancy dinner for the two of us in December. For the past 2 years I've been either pregnant or breastfeeding too much to go have the multi course dinner and drinks at the only restaurant in town that we could actually ever spend that much money at. So we won't be able to do that this year either.

  • My husband's holiday party is typically end of January to avoid the holidays. I'm thinking that might be a good first putting for a few hours :)

I can't believe they want an RSVP 6 months in advanced for yours. So much going on in the next 6 months

  • We're usually traveling all over the place Christmas eve/Christmas day since both my husband and I have divorced parents but I am not going ANYWHERE.  If family wants to see us they can come to us.  I'm so over traveling and trying to make people happy (especially husband's family who are crazy) I'm glad we have an excuse not to go anywhere this year!

nope - our "parties" are held at my boss's house.  sometimes he gets a caterer... sometimes its just cold appetizers.  either way, like hell i'm going to one of those things sober.

  • My company does a destination holiday party every year and they are always amazing. For the first time in 10 years I'll be missing the company party. I'm so bummed! And this year it's in the Dominican Republic! WAAAAAAH!!

But I am glad to have an excuse to get out of going to all other holiday events that are insufferable unless one is half in the bag.
  • This year is probably going to be the least stressful year for the holidays and I am so excited. No traveling and stressing over who gets what holiday and for how long. We can sit at our house and do our own thing and if anyone wants to come see us they can. So excited!

Can you get all the food and take it home? Like, skip the drinks and order 12 appetizers (the best part of any meal...) and get them all in to-go containers :)

I'll do anything to not cook.

  • DH's work always has a party but it's after my due date so I will assume its a no for me. I'm telling him to go because he can then get out early for the day.
  • My company stopped hosting holiday parties, since last year one of my co-workers got drunk, mooned another co-worker through the glad as he was trying to leave. The drunk co-worker then proceeded to lose his balance and fall ass first through the glass. 24 stitches later, the company decided no more company functions.
  • :-O @LittleMotherTucker‌ ! I don't even know what to say.

  • I'm planning on hosting Christmas Day at our house...and NYE celebrations too! My EDD is 16th Dec. Might be pretty stressful (!) but I figure it's easier than travelling all over the country over the festive period...and if baby is late my hospital induces at 10-14 days overdue...so I might still be pregnant on Christmas Day - in which case I really don't want to be travelling around!
  • Around here there are amazing Christmas markets and I don't care how big and uncoordinated I get...my happy pregnant self is going to feel that Christmas magic!

Thank goodness my husband's end of year gala isn't until January, maybe...just maybe I'll be able to fit into something from my pre-pregnancy days.

  • My company doesn't do anything to my knowledge, and H and one other employee are the only ones local so nothing there either. H and I will make lots of cookies and decorate. Christmas dinner will be at my house, but my mama will still do most of the cooking :-) I'm not traveling anywhere this year. Not that I typically have a lot of traveling to do anyway.

  • If possible, I would go! But I like social gatherings. Dh's job doesn't have any parties and our family is over 1000 miles away, so we will have a quiet Christmas & NY with our new little baby!! I've already decides that the lo will have it's own little Christmas tree in its room!

We always have a really nice holiday party at one of the restaurants we represent (marketing company in a tourist area) so I really hope it's before I'm due.  I'm okay skipping the booze, last year I had two glasses of wine and called it a night because I didn't want to humiliate myself.  My boss, however, had several and was hilarious all night.  We play dirty Santa and most of the gifts are alcohol related, so I should get stocked up for after the baby is born, lol.  I hope I can go, because the food was AWESOME last year (my first year) and the party was a lot of fun.  For Hubbs, his company has their party in a super nice hotel downtown in the city where their office is, so we'll probably go to that one too if I haven't had the baby.

My biggest concern is my community choir.  We have our Christmas concert the first weekend in December.  I want to sing in it, and since I'm due the 23rd, I should be able to... but Hubbs is nervous about that.  The venue is about an hour and a half from the hospital and he's terrified that I'm going to go into labor early and have the baby on the risers.  lol.  That would be a memorable concert, for sure.  Talk about getting into the Christmas spirit.  ;)

But this is the only opportunity I will ever have to sing a song from Mary's perspective while also being 9 months pregnant.  Imagine how cool that would be!

  • MW and I's companies tend to have their holiday parties in January which works out for us.  Since our due date is right around Christmas, we have told immediate family that we will not be going anywhere and people can come see us.

  • I'm in charge of the breakfast with Santa for my husbands work.  I think I may shoot for Dec 6th rather than the 13th (EDD 12/27) so I can be 37 weeks while I'm doing all that work.

They usually have an adult party at a bar the week or so before Xmas.  I plan on attending, but will obviously skip the drinking part.  I'll try my best to get my money's worth out of the food!

~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~
