Any moms here have any luck with this method of sleep training? I'm starting to exhaust my resources at the moment, and am getting desperate to try something that works. CIO, both the Ferber and extinction methods, were epic failures for us, and I am to the point where I am not cool with MOTN wakefulness anymore. I have no issues with having to get up with DD in the MOTN if needed...I do, however, have a problem with having to be up with her for up to 2 hours at a time every time she wakes up. She typically goes down to sleep initially really well--it's the MOTN wakings that are taking a huge toll on both DH and I, as well as my DD (since she isn't as rested as she needs to be either). And please, if any of you have any other suggestions for methods that have worked for your LOs, I'd love to hear them.
Re: Sleep Lady Shuffle?
My DS was doing this for a few weeks and it was exhausting. I just started waiting longer and longer before I went and got him. After about a week, he stopped waking up. I think he realized that waking up was more hassle than it's worth (Ha, let's be honest, who knows what he was thinking! I just like to imagine that's what he decided. ;-) )
Hmmmm, usually only about 10 minutes, or less if she seems pretty upset...maybe that's the problem...
I'll have to try waiting a little longer, and see if she goes back to sleep on her own. I guess I've just been so afraid of her waking herself up even further and DH and I having an even more difficult time getting her back to sleep than we're already having. I'll definitely wait a little longer, and see if that helps. Thank you!
my read shelf:
We have a white noise machine on in her room in addition to the ceiling fan. I ended up waiting a little longer last night before going in to her in the MOTN. Her crying just kept escalating after 20 minutes, so I gave in. I'm just at a loss as to how to sleep train her. With CIO/Ferber methods, she will sit up in her crib for HOURS before falling asleep (the last night we tried it, it was 4 hours that she stayed awake)...and she won't stay asleep long once she does fall asleep (maybe 3-4 hours tops). If I just put her down totally asleep, I can usually get a 6-7 hour stretch out of her before she wakes up.
I picked up a copy of "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child", which recommended an earlier bedtime for her, so we put her down at 6:30 last night instead of 7:15, and she actually slept for a 9 hour stretch, which was huge! But I still didn't put her down drowsy--I'm too afraid of how that has worked out the last couple of weeks. Basically, I'm running out of ideas to teach her to self soothe
Also, the last 3 nights in a row we did CIO with her, she pooped after an hour of crying, which required a diaper change, which woke her up even more. It's like the child can poop on command and figured out we would be back if she managed to poop.
