Good Morning! Please share with us how your/your partner's TTC journey is moving along.

**Reminder - If you have a BFP to post, please create a new thread so that everyone can see it. Thanks :) **

QOTW: What are you looking forward to the most this summer?

Me: 30  DW (aka C): 29

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

Re: TTC Check-In

  • Hi everyone!  I'm still sitting here waiting for CD 1.  My last dose of Prometrium was Wednesday evening so... any day now.  Get it together, ute.  It seems like each cycle it takes longer and longer for AF to show up.  The first time I spotted on Prometrium, the second time it took 2-3 days, last time it took 4 days, and right now I'm on the 5th day of waiting.  It's incredibly annoying.  Is it building up in my bloodstream or something?

    8-|

ANYway... moving forward!  We found a new donor we like but he's currently on a waitlist.  Pooh.  Our second choice is available and I'm afraid we'll have to go with him.  I called my doctor and she wants me to get the sperm to her office as soon as possible since they run tests of their own and it takes a couple weeks.

I'm not sure if I'm doing all injects or a hybrid cycle.  Gotta wait until CD 1 to find out.

If this next cycle doesn't work, I am (happily) passing the duty off on C.  At first I really, really wanted to be the one to get pregnant and carry the baby but at this point I've stopped wanting it as much.  It's such a horrible feeling every time to get a BFN.  What if C is super fertile?  She's healthier and younger than me (not to say I'm unhealthy and old, but she's got a one year advantage and she's significantly thinner than me, and her cycles are like clockwork unlike mine).  That's partially why we tried me first - if I wanted the chance to carry I should start while I'm as young as possible.

However, I'm also very heavy.  I think I need to focus on losing weight before I try again.  C really wants me to do one more IUI before moving on to her.  Personally I feel like it's flushing money down the toilet but I think C's apprehensive about trying herself so... I'll do this for her.  If I get pregnant, hey, awesome :) But if not, I'm ready to stop.  At least until C gets pregnant with our first.  I wanted C to have a baby, anyway.  I'd love to see her features on our kids.  I have a feeling she'll make awesome babies.  And I have a feeling she's a fertile myrtle.

  • Loading the player...
  • CD 38 for me. I finished Provera last night, so now I will be waiting for AF.
Hopefully it will only be a week or less wait.

I don't think I have had any horrible side effects from the Provera. I didn't last time either. Maybe a little moodiness and a headache, but I'm hesitant to attribute that to the Provera.

Even though we are technically on a TTC break/hold, I'm still feeling stressed. I'm ready to be done with all of this. I said to C the other night that I just want to fast forward and just have a baby already. Depending on when AF shows up, we may have to push ER and ET back because of being out of town in July for two days. I'm hoping we don't have to. I'm just ready to get it started and over with. I'm just not having a good day emotionally today.

On Friday, I think I did have a few minimal side effects from the Provera. I was tired and wanted to breakdown and cry. I'm tired of fertility meds (I know, many more are on the way). I'm tired of feeling crummy physically (I know, this comes with pregnancy too). Just give me a baby already...

QOTW: I'm most looking forward to the Aerosmith concert in July and spending a day in NYC. This is what might interfere with ER and/or ET. Though I'm looking forward to the concert, I don't feel my usual excitement. I feel like TTC is sucking the life out of me lately.

  • We are halfway through the 2ww. Trying to NOT read into ANY symptoms. Not optimistic at all for this cycle and we are trying to figure out how we are going to run ourselves in debt to make this dream come true via IVF.

We decided not to test unless she misses her period by this time next week.

This summer: trip to Emerald Isle with Sarah, my mom and with best friends from WV and their 2 girls. We rented a house on the beach that also has a hot tub and a pool. :). We go the Sun after 4th of July.

    10 medicated IUI's (3 with injectables).
IUI #1 (medicated) Jan. 2013-BFP!!!!- Beta's didn't double, MTX shot for possible ectopic.
    8 IUI's between April 13-April 14 = BFN
IUI #10 and final before IVF, injectables May 2014- BFP!!!!  TWINS!!!!

7 week ultrasound showed 2 wonderful heartbeats!
8 weeks to the ER with vaginal bleeding while on vacations!  Diagnosed SubChorionic Hemorrhage.  Babies are both great.
9 week ultrasound showed both babies are still great.
  • ((((HUGS)))) @StacyLH24 - planning fertility treatments around scheduled activities and vacations SUCKS.  That's partially why I'm not taking a break this cycle.  I'd love to take a cycle off to let my body recover but we're going to be out of town for 2 weeks next month and it would just be impossible to do a cycle so that means we'd have to wait until August.  No fun!!  I hate how critical the timing is for all this.  Can't even imagine with IVF.

You're allowed to have breakdowns.  This whole process is just awful.  I've had a couple meltdowns myself.  We're here for you!!

  • we are 6dpiui-- about halfway there.  Next appt, tomorrow morning to check progesterone (any idea what this means for me let me know lol).  Then the 10th to see if it worked!

qotw- most looking forward to relaxing and having a great summer, enjoying the pool and enjoying our proximity to the ocean.  Things we NEVER do!  Oh and going to DW's softball games- she hasnt played in 12 years but we went yesterday and she did so well!  it's a nice, lighthearted team and league so it's a good time :)

  • @mrs&mrsK - The progesterone check (simple blood draw) is to see if your progesterone is in a good enough place to support a pregnancy if one were to occur.  It can also make sure that you ovulated, though with the trigger, that shouldn't be a worry.  Generally, if your progesterone isn't where they want it, they will start you on a progesterone med to bring it up.  It is a cautionary measure to help limit the chance of a C/P due to low progesterone.

  • I am CD7. We expect that I will ovulate on CD15 (based on a few months of charting) so we anticipate inseminating early next week! We are very excited for our first attempt trying for #3, but also have our expectations tempered. This will be our first time attempting an at home ICI. When my wife was trying for #1 and #2 we did medicated IUIs. We have our fingers crossed that this go around we will be able to use less medical intervention.

QOTW: In July we are taking a family vacation to Ontario. We will spend two nights in Toronto with the kids and then we are heading to a lake cabin north of the city for a week. We are really looking forward to being off the grid during our time at the cabin. It seems like it gets harder and harder to get our girls (9 and 14) to turn off their electronic devices so no wifi and no cell signal will be very welcome by us!
  • StacyLH24  thanks! what is a c/p. i bet the answer will make me pass out. im so bad with medical terms! ugh so basically another possible waste of $50 or possible make-or-break us.  I hate getting up at 5 AM! LOL

  • Tomorrow is the big day! I had a doctors appointment Saturday and Sunday morning. They said my ovaries were looking great and I responded really well to all the medication. Got the phone call yesterday afternoon that my egg retrieval will be Tuesday morning! L did my HCG shot last night at 11pm. I was really nervous and even jumped when I felt the needle which made L jump and almost stab herself. Ooops! We tried again and it wasn't as bad as I was thinking it would be.

I'm just a ball of emotions right now. Happy, sad, excited and nervous.  Also not feeling so well today. Guessing from the shot last night. My ovaries have been super uncomfortable for a week now and its hurting my lower back. I told the ultrasound lady at my doctor appointment that my ovaries felt really heavy like they were going to fall out. She laughed and said "Well if they fall out, make sure you pick them up!" We all got a good laugh at that.

Saturday we went to a BBQ and talked to a lady there about her IVF journey. She did IVF years ago and currently has 7 year old boy/girl twins. I also had a friend reach out to me on FB that I haven't talked to in years. She had heard from a mutual friend that L and I were trying to have a baby and she wanted to let me know that if I needed support or to vent that she was available anytime. She told me all about her TTC journey. It was a bumpy one but is now pregnant and due in November. It was actually really nice to chat with her because L and I have been private about our journey. Only our close friends and family know. We also know people TTC but always feel weird asking questions.

QOTW: I'm looking forward to our trip to Portland in July. Haven't seen my family and friends since Christmas. I'm also looking forward to some outdoor concerts. Seeing Dave Matthews Band and Ray Lamontagne. L isn't really excited about those concerts but I know she is super excited because she will be seeing Linkin Park and this summer will be our first time going to Lollapalooza!

  • @mrs&mrsk - c/p means chemical pregnancy. Basically, you are pregnant but it can only be confirmed through a blood test and/or positive HPT because it is so early on. Then, your body, for whatever reason, naturally miscarries before you get to a clinical pregnancy. A clinical pregnancy is once the pregnancy can be confirmed through an ultrasound.

@Himee33‌ - Good luck tomorrow! I hope all goes well. Let us know what your ER count is! I will be thinking of you and hoping for a great outcome!

  • Just waiting right now to be able to start OPK.  Excited that next week I will be inseminating.  Although I know chances of it working in the first shot is slim I would love for it to happen so that there is a chance of having a 100% biological sibling of  Brynlee.  Otherwise it is back to the drawing board and finding a new donor.

  • My DW and I are currently in the tww.  She had her first IUI yesterday!  however, we are living abroad so we had to go to a fertility clinic and the doctor we are working with is not used to performing an IUI on someone with no fertility problems (we just need the sperm!) so she has my DW on a bunch of fertility medicines which we are a little skeptical of but we figured it can't hurt, right?  Because of the medications she can have false symptoms so we are not looking too much into any symptoms she might develop in the future.

I have work everyday so it is alittle easier for me to keep my mind off of it but my DW has a very flexible schedule.  I am nervouse she is going to be on the computer all day looking up side effects of the medicines...she does this alot, she really needs to research everything in depth.

We have to wait until the 17th for the pregnancy test...we are super excited and keep on thinking of fun ways to tell our friends and family in September when we go back home, but are scared we are jinxing it...

Anyway, I guess I have been looking for an outlet to talk...are there any other non-bio moms in here that can give advice on what to do for my DW while we are in the TWW?

    good luck everyone!
  • Yes I am a no-bio mom on here. Take her out...spoil her...just as you would want her to do for you. She will drive you crazy and will be emotional because it sounds like she's on progesterone! That stuff messes with a person.

Good luck! Our tww is over sat!

  • Thanks I will take her out...sounds good...good luck to you on Saturday
  • I thought I would update everyone on my IVF egg retrieval yesterday. Kinda a long post :)

So, I went into the hospital at 8:30am yesterday morning. Got all checked in and was taken for the procedure at 10:45am. Was back in my room at 11:00. My RE told me she would write the number of eggs retrieved on my hand. When I woke up I looked and she retrieved 9. My RE came into the room and talked to us about everything. She went over my list of medications to take and let us know she would be calling us in the morning to let us know how the embryos were doing.

Then the bad news, with a good ending:

The sperm that was supposed to be delivered to our RE office hadn't arrived! Usually the FedEx guy makes his delivery at 11:00am, but by noon he wasn't there. L called Fairfax and got the tracking number emailed to her. Estimated delivery time 4:30pm?! Now we all start to panic. There is only a small window to introduce the sperm before they need to freeze the eggs, which no one told us about. L and I were both so frustrated because we asked our physician assistant (the one that handles all the sperm) last week when we should have the sperm delivered and she said "have it delivered on Tuesday." We just didn't think about it and we trust everything they tell us to do. We could have had the sperm delivered on Monday. Well by the time I am getting discharged L and I are both in tears as I sign the consent form to freeze my 9 eggs. If the sperm wasn't at the hospital by 1:30pm then they would have to freeze the eggs and I would have to wait till the end of July to do the transfer. As I am getting in the car to go home at about 12:50pm, L gets a phone call from the lab saying the sperm had been delivered to my RE office and was now being driven to the hospital. At that same time my RE is running across the parking lot yelling "Jaime, the sperm is on its way!!" I think that was the laugh we all needed.

Now the unexpected part: A little TMI:

We get home. I change into jammies and I lay on the couch to take a little nap. First I go into the bathroom to go pee and its painful and I have a hard time going, When I stand up I notice blood clots in the toilet. I just thought it was normal discharge after the procedure. I drink some water and take a nap. About an hour later I wake up and I am in pain. My bladder feels like its going to explode. I go to the bathroom and nothing comes out. Maybe just a trickle. I look in the toilet and I am peeing blood. I try to go more and nothing is coming out. I am in pain, hunched over, and crying hysterically. I call the on-call nurse from my clinic and she says I can't pee due to the anesthesia and tells me to keep drinking water. I'm chugging water and crying. I'm in so much pain. So L calls our REs cell phone number and is explaining what is going on. She tells us that my bladder is probably dry and its just my ovaries that are hurting. I told her I was peeing blood and it felt like my bladder was going to explode. She told me to take a heating pad, put it on my stomach and try to relax. I try to pee one more time and I pushed hard. Pee came out along with blood clots. I felt better. Tried to relax and used a heating pad. My RE told me to call back in an hour with an update. An hour later my bladder is going to explode. I go to the bathroom and nothing is coming out. I'm in so much pain. Hunched over and crying again. L calls our RE and she calls in a prescription for Tylenol with codeine to help with the pain. L runs next door to Walgreens to pick it up. I decided to try one more time to pee and nothing is coming out. I decide to push one last time and I pushed hard. I felt the blood clot come out and it was hard and I heard it hit the water. I finally was able to pee and I peed a lot. Pure blood. I felt so much better. The pain was gone. My RE and on-call nurse called back a few times to check on me. I went pee a few more times before bed and my last pee was clear. Thank goodness! I took two pills and passed out. Today I am peeing fine and my ovaries are sore but that's expected. Still have no idea why there was blood.

We got the call from the lab today and out of the 9 we had 8 fertilize. We are hoping for a 5 day transfer, so as long as they continue to do well the transfer will happen Sunday!

Himee33, that sounds horrible!   I'm so happy you are feeling better and everything is working the way it should again!

I had a kidney stone once, my Mom found me laying in the middle of the living room in the fetal position crying, thinking I was dying.  It sucked so bad!!  So I can just imagine how much it would have hurt to pass the clots.  Ouch!!!  Good on you to fight through all that.
