Mucus plug??

What a gross term! I'm 39 weeks today and haven't seen any sign of a mucus plug that I know of yet. Will it be pretty obvious when I lose it?

    Yes and no. A lot of women loose it and don't realize it. With my first pregnancy it came out in a couple chunks. The biggest chunk I noticed in the toilet after going pee (it was about the size of a quarter). This time I've noticed it come out in smaller chunks. Some women don't loose it at all until right before labor.

    Honestly, it could come out in chunks, I usually didn't lose mine until right before pushing. It is probably the nastiest thing that can come out of a human body so you probably won't miss it. Unless you don't look before you flush.

    I admit that during nighttime trips to the bathroom I often don't turn the light on, so my thought was maybe that I missed it. Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing?

    I don't remember ever seeing it with my first. With this one I lost a huge chunk of it this morning. Looked like a huge ball of snot with blood in it. I've been losing more of it through out the day. It's not a big deal if you miss it, it doesn't always mean labour is near.

    @Junebaby614‌ I am literally in the same boat! 39 weeks and nothing. I know because I'm a freak and I look every time after I go.....every. Time. I'm dilated and effaced so I thought id lose it by now.

    Yes, just look before you flush. It looks like mucus with a twinge of blood. A little came out each time I went to the bathroom. After the 1st sign if it I gave birth the following day.

    Thanks everyone and sorry for the gross topic. Very helpful answers! I dreamed last night that I lost it but the entire toilet bowl looked like it was filled with grated orange rind! Weird...

    I don't remember seeing mine fall out with my first child. It didn't seem as important as the water breaking too!
