Pump it up

Okay I am finally to the point where my milk supply is about caught up with my hungry little hippo. I am exclusivly pumping and want to start storing some milk- my question is what do you use to freeze your milk in? Brand of bags or containers and why? There's a lot out there. Also any helpful tips appreciated. Thanks!

I had luck with Lansinoh breastmilk bags. Bags are nice because they lay flat so can take up less room. Also for storage you may want to look into the gift bag method. Some have said they had issues with leaks in Lansinoh bags but I never had 1 leaky bag with DD, and I stored a lot with her.

I also use bags. My favorites are Lansinoh and Nuk, but I'm about to try some new ones my insurance company sent to me. I freeze 6oz in each bag and then freeze 10 bags in a gallon ziploc freezer bag. It makes it easy to eyeball my stash and figure out what I have. I put dates on all of the bags so I can use the older milk first.

In the NICU I had to freeze in their 4oz bottles, so that's what my early stash is, and it takes up much more room in the freezer.

I've also got 1oz ice cube trays that I used to make baby food for DS1. I haven't done it, but I've seen people freeze milk that way and then put it in ziploc bags so they can only thaw the exact number of ounces they want.

  • I love te medela bags! So easy to use and store
  • I used the lansinoh bags for DD1. I'd pump at work, store the milk in the bags during the day then bring them home in a small cooler, in my backpack, on my bicycle after work. I froze them as is, so usually between 2.5-4oz per bag. Never had a leak in the 6m i did this.
