my first pp poop thread!

How's it going ladies? Those still pregnant, ant change? Those not pregnant, any tips or reassurance on the first pp poop or getting rid of hemis?

I did notice a slight difference leading up to labor, things were definitely a little softer. First pp poop was fine for me, as nerves make things loose and giving birth and hospitals and change all make me nervous! I did use the dermaplast spray down there before I tried to push out the poop and that made a huge difference as far as my stitches from the episiotomy feeling OK.

  • I've been having something on the way to diarrhea for a few days. On the one hand, I always feel poop is better out than in. But, changes during pregnancy make me nervous, plus I'm trying so hard already to stay hydrated.

  • I took a stool softener the first two days pp but after nothing came out and too afraid to strain too much I drank some smooth move tea. Sweet relief!! After that the stool softener works great.

I have been pooping up a storm lately!  I seriously think I've gone four or five times in the last two days.  Sometimes difficult, sometimes a little "too easy".  I've heard your body sometimes "cleanses" itself before delivery, which did not happen at all with my daughter, but then again, I had NO signs with her.  I'm not ready for any impending labor signs, though!!

@Rachel5130‌ try some downward dog yoga to relieve pressure. It worked for me toward the end.

Oh, and I already take colace regularly because of the constipation I get too often.  I'm hoping they'll give me something stronger after delivery, because the hemorrhoids I had after my daughter were one of the worst parts of postpartum recovery for me.

  • My first 2 weeks post partum I took Percocet and Colace and played the waiting game. 3 days post c-section I literally gave birth out my of backside. I cried on the toilet for 20-30 minutes and held/squeezed/cried into a huge towel. I knew it was coming so I wasn't surprised, but it wasn't pleasant.

Honestly, adding in extra fiber to my diet really, really helped moved things along and soften the blow of post partum poops. 3 weeks post partum and I am getting back to my normal, satisfying 3-5 bm's a day. My oatmeal/flax, breast milk enhancing recipes definitely help.

    Poop.
  • Omg your post just made me laugh so hard I may have peed. ;)

  • @satrimm‌ and @StrawberryDreams219‌ I've had so much coconut water the past few days! I can't stand Gatorade, and I will have vitamin water out of desperation but I do not like it. My doc is fine with whatever I will drink that keeps my pee clear.

  • @satrimm, is he maybe confusing coconut water and coconut milk?  Maybe try to explain the difference?

  • I'm pretty sure I've had 3 watermelons in the past week and a half. Keeps me pooping like a champ at least 2 times per day.
  • I keep cycling back between diarrhea and being constipooped. I'm not terribly uncomfortable, but just wondering where all the food is that I ate?

I was so excited when the softies started 8d before my edd, I thought my system was clearing itself out. But no. Poop and baby are still on board.

  • It took me 3 days to poop PP even with taking around the clock stool softeners. I was more scared for that poop than I was to give birth. Turns out it wasn't as bad as I expected but I'm still not looking forward to poop #2.
  • @nutmegs8‌ I think it took about 4 weeks or so for my stitches to disolve after my first pregnancy. I also had a second degree tear.

And up until this past week, I've had pretty normal poops throughout this pregnancy. Lately though, I feel like I've been going #2 a lot more. Like 4 times a day vs the usual 2. And they've been pretty soft? Which is also weird. Maybe it's a sign that labor is closer than I think?! Doubt it haha
  • Still pregnant but things have been super soft for a few weeks and often more than one a day. Yesterday I felt like I needed to go all day but there was nothing in there after having already gone twice. I just want things to feel semi normal again.

  • @rachel5130 I'm in the same boat sometimes. Feel like I need to go, then nothing. Or I will strain and produce what I would have thought shouldn't take much effort. Hmmm. First one pp with DD was scary; I sat on the toilet for like 30 minutes hoping the nurses and everyone else would leave me the hell alone.

  • i was so scared to poo after lo bc i got baaaad hemis and had stitches from the episotomy.  i took stool softeners for 2 days and then when i got the urge, popped 2 of the pain pills i got from my ob and waited it out on the throne.  wasn't quite as bad as i feared, but was definitely an experience! **im officially all lower case bc this lil guy refuses to be put down :)

@jshrop they gave me an ointment in the pp room literally called 'cocaine' i put it on the hemis twice a day for 2 days and they were 90% healed by the time i came home.  good luck down there, that shit hurts!! pun intended

  • OK, Colace doesn't do $#!t. Pardon the pun. The meds they gave me in the hospital were worthless for stool softening. I know I am a broken record on this but I got a severe tear PP with Lincoln and I only narrowly escaped surgery for it. To this day I still have issues. Ask your OB for something stronger. I am literally terrified of my first poop. It gives me anxiety it was that bad.

I just assumed I had hemorrhoids after he was born but it was a stabbing pain. Yeah, those were my shredded insides. And I will be asking for meds other than Percocet.

  • My first pp poo was not bad with either. That being said, with first baby I tore towards the front (in the direction of my urethra, I do not know the medical term for this kind of tear if there is one) and was never aware of my stitches and this time I had no tearing. I do however have two hemmorrhoids that feel like a little baby ball sack if I sit in the tub. Super duper pleasant. I have to wipe diagonally between them it's awful. But as far as poo pain, not bad at all. Especially compared to the med free birth. It honestly hurts more to sneeze.
