Limited talking

Anyone still living with a toddler that doesn't say a lot of words? Ben says fewer than 10 words but he understands a lot and his motor skills are excellent. I'm not worried, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.

DS falls in that camp as well. Our pediatrician is not concerned. She said boys tend to be a little behind girls when it comes to talking.

  • DD is just starting to make sounds to words. Like wa wa for water, na na for night night. Lol she can clearly say "yeah" and uses it sometimes in the appropriate places. She signs and communicates well, just doesn't say a whole lot. I don't have a gut feeling anything is wrong. We have her 18 month appt next month (no 15 month) so I will see what her pedi says. So far she has been late for a few I her milestones, except teeth. She's had 12 of those bad boys for quite awhile.

  • This is us as well. I am not concerned, and I am really enjoying his expressive baby babbling.

Our doc said 5 words is about right at our 15 month visit, when she was alreadyb16mos. Don't worry, they will talk when they are ready:)
Our little Samosa arrives in January!
  • It is good to hear that there are some other LO that aren't talking much. Besides understanding a lot, Norah only SAYS dada consistently. Sometimes mama and signs a few thinks like milk, more, please...
I am a little worried but if we are headed toward speech I'm okay with that. I just dont want her to be behind :(

  • In my case DD is super talkative and repeats EVERYTHING you say lol. I also help with my 19 month old nephew and he doesnt really speak. I am concerned that he needs a EIC evaluation and speach therapy as he doesnt even say mama and dada consistently. He also has other things that make me think he needs his hearing checked he doesnt act like he always hears you speaking to him. All kids are so different.

DS still babbles. Momomomom and other silliness. He totally understands our words. He can point out the dogs, cats, fish, his tummy, toes, ears, nose, etc. Waves hi and bye bye and will give "baby hugs" when asked.

Just no talking. I talk, sing, and read to him constantly. He LOVES books. At his 15 month appointment his pedi seemed sure he was on the verge of a language bloom and said we'd discuss it more at 18 months of we felt we needed to. He's 17 months now and still not talking. :(

ETA DS was walking at 9.5 months and he is a very active, social boy..so I am pretty sure I have nothing to worry about, but I worry anyway.
