November 2014 Moms

Ugh...

There's this girl I know who found out a couple of weeks ago that she was expecting. The guy she is married to has four boys from a previous marriage so they're hoping for a girl. Totally understandable. But get this...a couple of days ago she posted a pic of the little peanut on fb. In the comments everyone was saying how beautiful this baby was, calling it a SHE, even saying stuff like "there's my granddaughter, niece, etc" and "are you doing her nursery in pink or purple?" This girl has already bought her "daughter" girly things (clothes, shoes, etc) And it's all because she WANTS IT TO BE A GIRL. But she is just sure it is a girl. Her reason...they already have boys and she WANTS a girl. Just to clarify this...she has not had any tests or anything to verify gender. She is only 7 weeks. I think it's fine to wish for one gender or another, but am I the only one who thinks she is going too far with this?

I am going to laugh so hard if she has a boy. But also will feel sorry for the child if he is a boy. Because what if he finds all that stuff about everyone wanting him to be a girl? I think she will still love him, she is very good to her husbands boys. But it is just ridiculous. She isn't a friend. Her husband is the lead singer of the band my boyfriend is in. I have to see her this weekend...I'm sure I will hear all about her "daughter" and I will probably end up saying something
  • My mom "knew" I was a girl! She bought all girl stuff & had a girl nursery...the whole family was whispering to each other about what would happen if I ended up a boy! Well...turns out, she was right!

Even though the tech told me at my 12 week scan that it's most likely a boy, I still can't find it in me to refer to the baby as he/him...I need to know 100%!!!!

  • I have a girlfriend that point blank refuses to acknowledge the fact that I could have a boy. It drives me CRAZY! The way she talks makes it sound like it would be a huge disappointment if I had a boy and she wouldn't be nearly as interested in the baby. I've actually started to avoid her because it pisses me off.

It's okay to have a preference, but to go to the lengths that your friend (or acquaintance or whatever) is going to is just ridiculous!

My SIL did that to me with DD. She even said she wouldn't love it as much if it was a boy because we had too many in the family already.

Omg, your MIL said that? I would've been so, so furious. It'll still be her grandchild! My MIL has a strong preference for the baby being a girl too, but she better not say anything if it turns out otherwise. I'm actually leaning towards boy, but in the end, you love your child regardless.

Oh my gosh....what an awful thing for her to say. That would be one less aunt in my childs life
  • I find myself hoping it's a not boy out of fear she won't love that baby if it's not a girl.
  • Hoping it's a girl or somebody is in for a hell of a disappointment!
  • I need an update on this as soon as she finds out!! Send out the bat signal!! ;)

    Agreed!! Please update!

  • She's 27. I will update! It will be a while though since she's only 7 weeks. Hopefully I can find this thread again then.
  • This is slightly different, but this is why I'm so glad that I don't have a strong preference or any 'intuition' about what our baby might be.  This way I go into our anatomy scan without any preconceived notions so no disappointment at all.  I think it's insane the lengths that some people go to because they want the baby to be a certain sex.
