  • I shouldn't laugh but...

    Trender Man

Trender Man is described as the sassy brother (sometimes referred to as a cousin) of Slender Man with a passion for fashion and clothing, wearing brown fashionable attire with a white shirt underneath. The photograph, representing a shop mannequin with no visible face, was taken by Tumblr user Conjured Charisma who posted it on his blog on July 31st, 2012 titled Slenderman’s casual Friday.[58]

  • Basically, a discussion board had some sort of challenge for people to invent a new horror-type urban legend.  One of the entries came up with this character of the Slender Man and photoshopped it into some old pictures.  Then other people thought this was a cool character idea and invented other scary stories to go with it.  It's the same way people have collectively told tales for thousands of years, only now we can see all the origins and contributions online.

    Here's a really good explanation:

So-- basically like a modern day Bloody Mary?  This is serioulsy insane.

That's exactly what I thought of!  I don't know if everyone else heard the Bloody Mary legend as a kid.  The story was that if you looked into a mirror and chanted Bloody Mary, a murderous ghost would appear behind you.  It was something girls scared each other with at sleepovers, but I cannot imagine anyone ever taking it seriously.  Those girls in Wisconsin must have some serious mental illness to be that deluded.

We must have played bloody mary a million times as a kid. Was it scary? yes. Did i believe it as a kid? yes. Are kids stupid? yes. Problem solved.

Yes i'm quoting myself... the end of my comment sounds harsh and i didn't want it taken the wrong way. I just meant that as kids we believed silly things. But our generation also knew that those things weren't really true or realistic.

I'm sure there are some mental issues going on here and also peer pressure. I think it is just shocking and horrifying. I'm so glad that girl survived.
  • Yes, I was reading about this last night. I think there are mental health issues here if they thought they were going to become proxies and live in the woods with "Slender Man".***

That poor girl. I can't imagine being stabbed nineteen times and finding the will to crawl for help.

*** ETA I am not excusing their actions here, I just think they need help beyond prison.

Yes-- true-- they are freaking 12 years old!  Something isn't quite right.

  • I am still in disbelief that 2 twelve year olds would commit such a horrendous crime. And they have been planning it for months.

  • I still won't do Bloody Mary as a 32 year old.  True story.

There is a difference in believing in something as a dumb kid and murdering someone because of it.
I don't buy that both of the girls were trying to appease this fictional character, I agree that there was a lot of peer pressure involved.

Not to be that annoying person who blames the parents, but if DD had a morbid fascination with some horror sites as a 12 year old, we would be having some serious talks.
Oh, and I brought up the parents because apparently one of their dads posted his daughter's hand drawn Slender Man on like Twitter or something with the caption, "Only my daughter would draw Slender Man on a restaurant napkin with a crayon" or something.  So they were aware of what was going on.

They're still babies. When I was 12 I was still playing with my dolls.

Its Ian Somerhalder from Vampire Diaries.

Umm hello this should be your clue to talk with her about reality rather than tweeting about it....

The sad thing is, they are not the first or the youngest to commit a crime like this. One of the youngest was Mary Bell, who I think was 10 or 11 when she killed two boys.

Thankfully in this case the victim survived. Hopefully she is able to get whatever help she needs to heal, both physically and emotionally.

I've read articles and seen TV shows about Mary Bell. There has been other kids who have killed before, their victims are usually other kids.

I just cant imagine someone so young committing such a crime. I've always wondered is it mental illness, not understanding what they're doing or just being evil.

  • I can't either. It's horrifying. I think it can be any of those things, or a combination of them. In this case, there seems to be a mental illness with the Slender Man connection. At twelve they should be old enough to realize that Slender Man is a made up story. I do believe they knew what they were doing though, or it wouldn't have been something they were plotting for months.

We've had so many shootings, stabbings and murders committed by young kids/teens that it honestly scares me that they are the future of our country.
