Hip clicks

Hi everyone! We just got back from DS2's 1 week check up. I was told his hip clicks and could be dislocated. If his hip still clicks at 1 month we will have an ultrasound to see if it is in fact dislocating or just normal for him. Anyone have anything similar? I'm really not worried bc it could be worse. Just curious about others' experiences.

Re: Hip clicks

  • When DS was 6 days old we noticed his right shoulder popped. We called and nurse said to bring him in to check out especially since we had kinda a traumatic birth (his face was sideways and had to be auctioned out- he was 9lbs 2ozs). Pediatrician checked him and said it was nothing to worry about. Just loose baby joints.

Baby girl is in rhino brace for right hip dislocation. It is now in place and developing normally. Has to wear it 6 weeks full time then some part time. Early intervention is apparently key. Direct message me if u would like. Other treatment options pavlik harness and surgery. Older method was to double or triple diaper.

Edit: rhino brace, not harness. Dd couldn't tolerate pavlik harness because it created nerve palsy.
  • My older daughter was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia at her 6 month check up.  If it would have been caught earlier treatment would have been much easier.  I agree with @Indavi2, early intervention is key!

I would be asking for the ultrasound ASAP and referral to a paediatric orthopedic surgeon.  You can message me as well if you have any questions.  I'll post my blog that I kept from DD's hip dysplasia journey.

My DD has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia as well. She has been in the harness since the day she was born. I agree with pp's the earlier you can find out the better. My son also had clicking in his hip but the ultrasound showed that his hips were fine.
  • My first was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at her 1 month appt and was in a Pavlik harness for two months. I hated it but looking back, it really wasn't bad and it's so so so much better to get it taken care of early. Her hips have been perfect ever since we were done with the harness at three months.
