Flying and vacation at 31-33 wks pregnant

We're trying to plan a trip that would involve flying across the country (literally from one coast to the other). We want to use our free flights but our only options are to leave today (not feasible) or wait until the first week of Sept. I'm due Nov 2 so the beginning of Sept I would be 31-33 wks pregnant. Any thought from those who are STM about flying at that point and if I'll even enjoy the sightseeing and be able to do all the walking or will I just be big and uncomfortable and regret the trip?

Re: Flying and vacation at 31-33 wks pregnant

  • I don't have personal experience but my sister and I went to New York a couple years ago when she was 7 months pregnant - so around the 30 week mark. She had a great time and walked a ton with me. :)

  • You should talk with your Dr too. I know that my dr's office has a cutoff for travel.

  • I flew at around 32 weeks from NY to SF and I was fine... just make sure to take a pillow for your back and plenty of snacks. Hydrate and walk around and you'll be fine!

The cutoff at my dr's office is 36 wks which seems really late to me. I originally didn't want to plan to fly at all my last 2 months. Free flights are making me feel differently.

Edited: because I had a brain fart and put down 28 wks when it should have been 38.
    Edited again: 36 wks
  • @kyliedaniellexx - thanks for looking at some airlines and their policies :) very sweet of you.
I plan to call to book the flights because online I can only do one at a time because they use awards and I want to make sure DH and I both get on the flight (tried to do this with dueling laptops a few years back and one of us got the flight and the other didn't).
I'll make sure to ask when I book and possibly get a note from my doctor just in case if I end up actually going in Sept. I'll be ending my 7th month and starting my 8th right then. Better to have the note with me and not need it than not be able to get on the plane, right?
  • I went Hawaii around that time period and had a blast! I didn't do a ton of walking around, because that wasn't what we were doing, but it wasn't a big deal when we did. I asked for a copy of my chart to bring with me just in case anything happened while abroad. Have so much fun!
  • I am planning on a trip to Hawaii around the same time frame. (I am due Nov 4) I talked to my MW and she said to walk the aisles of the plane every hour or so. Drink lots of fluids to keep hydrated. If you already have varicose veins invest in some compression socks. Make sure it's a restful holiday. Take a copy of your chart just in case.

    You should be fine.

  • As long as you are low risk it'll be totally fine.

Argh!! Can't believe I put the number in wrong twice (sorry ladies). The fact that I haven't been able to sleep much the last several nights due to back, side, and belly pain is really affecting my brain (emotions too).
