Water birth I would do...in a birthing center...not a home birth. Had a cousin who started hemorrhaging so badly during her home birth she almost died on the 7 minute ride to the hospital. Shit happens and I wanna be where I can get critical care in an instant.
I did a hospital birth with my first. I hated the experience. Had a home birth with my second and loved it. Now with my third I plan for a home water birth.
Not for me! With DS, I had extensive bleeding immediately After delivery due to an internal vag tear. I had to get immediate fluids to bring up my BP and later a blood transfusion. This could of been life threatening if I had been at home. Not to mention I would also worry about something going wrong for baby
There are a few good books out there that can help you decide. It's ultimately your choice. Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth is a good one. And Birth Matters, A Midwife's Manifesta by Ina May
I have photographed some home births and they look amazing! I wish I could have one. But I had a c-section last time so definitely not in the cards for me.
BFP: 5/23/14 Baby #2 (It's a Girl!: Madeline Jenny):
I had an uncomplicated labour the first time so I know the midwife may suggest it. But quite frankly I don't think I want that mess in my house! Lol blood was caked everywhere from the birth then holding LO. I think I'll stick to the hospital.
I'm thinking hospital birth again - I second the "don't want that mess in my house" sentiment. So much blood! My DH and I joke that my first labor was so short I'll end up with a home birth this time, but I really hope I can get to the hospital before baby arrives.
I am totally interested in a home birth, but I don't think that I will do it. Just for personal preferences and comfort levels. I did drug free with my first and that was amazing. I was induced with my second and had to have an epidural. That sucked. It only worked on one side and I will do everything I can to not be induced again. I am definitely looking into the water birth though. They had a beautiful big tub in my room when I had my second and I couldn't use it since I was induced. Are you thinking of doing one or both @liltiger15?
We live too far from a hospital for me to be ok with a home birth - I'd need to know I was minutes from critical care. The birthing center my practice delivers at routinely does water births, which is my goal for this one. Last time I was transferred to a large hospital because of the preterm labor and it was miserable - really, really hoping to avoid a repeat. But no, no home birth here.
@rspurlock813 did you have one? Thanks for the book ideas
This is my first pregnancy, so, no! Lol but, I work as a massage therapist on a lot of pregnant women and when I took my pregnancy massage certification class, we learned about natural birth and our teacher suggeted those books. It intrigues me. But also scares me. I hear it can be a very empowering experience and there are many many benefits that happen right after birth that would might not get to experience at a hospital. There is a great documentary on netflix called The Business of Being Born. Check that out too
No personal experience, but a friend of mine had a home birth last year with her third child and she loved it. I'm going for a vbac so I'm planning on a hospital birth. I second the recommendation to check out Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, it's a great book.

How long was your first birth? I'm in the same position. I want to do birth center this time rather than a hospital, but a little worried I won't make it anywhere for this one. My first birth was 45 minutes.
I really want to do a home birth but I'm so worried about something possibly going wrong and not being able to get to a hospital fast enough. We are only 5 minutes away from a hospital but who knows if that would be enough time. We are planning on meeting with a couple home birth midwives just to get a feel for things and make a final decision on whether it's right for us or not.
Oddly, the mess doesn't bother me but I do think being in a pool of bloody water would.
@stellasoo I am doing the same. My husband and I meet with a midwife next Wednesday to discuss things and ask all our questions. I'm assuming that will put my mind at ease and we'll be able to make the right decision. I've researched the stats and honestly I can't find stats that show home births for low risk pregnancy are anymore dangerous than hospital births. The mess doesn't bother me at all. Having a relaxed, natural birth is way more important. I don't plan on cleaning anything up. My husband or mother or friend will do that for me, I'm sure Good luck with making your decision. Hopefully we will both decide what is best for each of us.
DH hates the idea of having a home birth, and while I like the idea of a water birth, I have heard it can be dangerous because it's harder to monitor how much you're bleeding. I think I'm going to go with a hospital birth but with no drugs or interference, if possible. I've considered a birth center as well since we have one nearby, seems kind of like the best of both worlds, but I haven't totally decided yet. Good luck with whatever you choose!
@WhiteCorrette I see what you mean about the bleeding. I have seen many water births on youTube where there is no bleeding at all. I'm assuming if I was in the tub and I started bleeding, I probably would want to get out.
