Holding baby vs baby gadgets

How long do you think is appropriate to leave your baby in the their p&p, swing, bouncer etc...total during a day? Sometimes I worry my baby is in her swing to much and I am neglecting her but it is so nice to be able to pump or get a few houshold things done why she is chilling.

In my opinion, as long as baby is fed, clean, and isn't sitting in dirty diapers, it's fine. The swing saved my sanity with my oldest and it will probably do the same with this one. I'm sure you give your baby an ample amount of love and attention. The only concern I'd have here would be putting the child in those items just for the sole purpose of ignoring him as opposed to needing some free time for something.

DD spends a good chunk of time between feedings in her RnP or car seat (if we are out). I can't hold her 24/7 so once she's fed and happy, in a seat she goes. Unless she's totally restless and upset I don't see the problem. She still gets held quite a bit when I have the chance to just veg on the couch.

My little guy loves to be awake a lot and just chill and look around...I was killing myself thinking I needed to be with him every minute he's awake and breaking down. My midwife helped me and taught me that as long as he's fed, changed, burped and content there's no need to be staring at him the whole time he's up. She even suggested that I leave him in a safe spot, turn on the sound machine so he has something to chill to while he looks around, turn on my monitor and go do the dishes or read or shower...he will be fine! Some babies like my son are content being alone and like to look around and be quiet and arnt ones to want to be held a lot and that's ok!!! If he cries I go to him and take care of him otherwise I can leave him be and get my sanity back..easier said than done lol

  • @Lild09‌ so glad you posted that, my daughter seems very content to be alone in her swing as long as she's clean, fed etc but I just feel guilty

I tend to wear more not because of guilt, but because I'm paranoid about flat head. I know a few friends whose kids needed helmets and insurance usually won't cover it because it is considered cosmetic. I think there is a difference between getting stuff done and leaving a baby to lay too much though :)

  • Holding a baby can take a lot out of one person. DS is awake and fussy off and on all day and I get frustrated because I know he's not hungry and won't sleep.

My moby is too hot, so I am looking into other baby wearing options for the house.

I do have a swing, I might try that.

But if they are happy - put them down for a while :) keeps everyone happy happy happy.
  • Biggest issue I'd have with lo in gadgets is the flat head issue as PP has mentioned. DS1 had it and although insurance helped pay for the helmet, we still paid for physical therapy and $1800 for the helmet.

  • If he is asleep I try to put him down. During the day it's his bouncey seat and at night it's the PNP.
