S/O Mirena/IUD

I didn't want to hijack the previous thread:)
But can your DH feel your strings? I think mine are way too long. I can feel them very easily if I try and almost every time DH and I have sex he can feel the string and he says it hurts like being poked. And we have to reposition ourselves. It's SUPER annoying and when it happens it totally changes my mood. I've thought about making an appt to maybe get them cut but I haven't had the time. Well I have had time but I forget.

Just curious if anyone else had this issue and how you went about it. Iv read that they're supposed to wrap themselves around your cervix but this is not the case.

Re: S/O Mirena/IUD

  • That is good to know! I didn't know they would soften. That's cool. DH also says they feel like fishing line. I try to push them up when I know we're dtd but most of the time I'm all "eh, I don't really feel like sex right now". Then it happens.

  • @twolittlewheels‌ I thought cutting them make it worse because it would actually poke him. Also I think there's no such thing as TMI. Just saying
  • Can someone explain these strings to me? Do you feel them when you are walking around and sitting or do you mean feel them with your finger if you stick it in there? I know I should get an IUD but I keep putting it off because I'm scared!

  • Ok you guys are talking me into it. We want to take a break from having kids for 3-5 years and then consider whether to have a 3rd (I'll be 37-40 by then). So we're not ready for a vasectomy but I don't want to be on the pill for the next 5 years either.

  • @thedash‌ it really is worth it IMO. I've tried the pill, the nuvaring and the shot buy the Mirena is my favorite by far. The strings do irritate DH sometimes but it's worth it. I know I couldn't keep up with the pill every day and when I had the shot I bled for 9 months before quitting. The Mirena I bled irregular for awhile but like I said I got it 8 weeks pp. Deff worth it IMO.

Ok I just feel I need to put this out there in case anyone doesn't know and would want to.... And preface saying I have 0 medical background. I've heard that an IUD allows conception but doesn't allow the baby to attach to the uterus. Do your own research if you're interested, I just never could consider one after I heard that. Though they do sound more convenient than remembering the pill everyday.

Thanks @triplea598‌ that's exactly what I was talking about but have never actually done the research myself. And I wanted anyone who would want to know that, to know. I think a lot of people just assume it works something like hormonal birth control but is more convenient because they don't have to take it everyday.
