Walking question.

So my DD cruises around furniture, will push chairs and her walker and will walk if you hold her hands. She's also just started to take one or two steps by herself. She seems like she wants to walk but gets scared.

My question is how long did it take for your LO to go from that to walking by themselves?

Re: Walking question.

  • took mine around 2 weeks. She has been fully walking (no crawling whatsoever) for the last 1.5 months. As soon as she could walk, she decided no more crawling.

  • N has absolutely NO fear so as soon as her body could take any steps she did.  But she would fling herself around and is always falling.  She's been "walking" for almost two months now but still not really walking walking, if that makes sense.  Her balance keeps getting better but she's still not really steady all the time.

  • It all happened really quickly for us. She moved onto walking when she figured out there was limited furniture.

  • With my first it was about a month from first step to walking full time; but he was also an early walker.  Took his first step at 9 months and full time walking by 10 months.  This one prefers to crawl or just cruise on the couch.  I can't even get him to stand alone yet.   He's much more laid back that his older brother.
  • About 4 weeks from the time she could stand unassisted and about 1 week from her first independent step for us.

  • From the first couple steps to walking across the room in about a week, another week until about 85% walking, and that's where we're at now. I feel like it happened so quick!

  • Vinny has been pulling himself up since before he began crawling. He's pushing things and using walkers things. I try and have him stand unassisted but its maybe for 10-30 seconds. He won't do it on his own. Today while shopping he screamed and sobbed until we took him out of the stroller to walk while holding our hands. I feel like its just a matter of time before he's off running. I am not going to advocate this though, LOL! Its a whole new world and he's not gonna be a baby :(

She's figured out theres limited furniture but just cries until we come and get her. Or will sit down and ... crawl? She kinda moves her hands in the crawling motion but more or less drags her knees. Usually she just resorts to crying though.

@Diana909 Im totally with you on the not really wanting her walk. Shes gonna be more like a little person than she already is.

  • It took KJ less than two weeks to go from cruising to walking. Her first motivation was when she was trying to get to me. I was about 4 feet away from her and she let go of the coffee table to walk to me. She took about four or five steps. Within three days she was taking 20 steps and full on walking within a week of that.

  • Her teacher thinks she took 2 steps yesterday on her own.  That is it.  She can walk she is just afraid.  She has to have our hands.  My sister said to take wood clothes pins(or similar) and have her hold on to those and then when she gets going, let go of the clothes pins and see how she does.  We had swim lessons last night, but I want to try this.

Once he started taking a couple of steps, within a week or so, he had progressed to multiple steps, and within a couple of weeks he was completely walking.
  • Months. My daughter was cruising back in January, actually even earlier. She just recently starting taking some steps unassisted.
