I've been a slacker & haven't posted this recently. Is there still interest in this thread?
Would you say you have your routine down at this point or are you still working out the kinks?
What is your greatest accomplishment/success since becoming a sahm?
Greatest challenge?
What activities to you do with lo? (Either in the house or places you go)
Re: SAHM checkin
Routine: I'd say we got it down pretty much. It took 9 months but I feel like I've finally figured out when she needs to be napping, and now that she is sleeping better, she's actually napping for normal times (instead of the 20 minute naps she was taking before). I'm glad we have a routine down, however, it makes it hard to do anything outside of that routine because it completely throws her off.
It might sound silly, but my greatest accomplishment I think has been getting through the 6+ months of sleep issues we had. It's only been 2 weeks or so, but she is sleeping better than she has since she was a newborn and I am so thankful for that!
My biggest challenge is still trying to keep up with the house as well as LO. I should be able to do stuff like laundry or cleaning during her naps but I'm still so worried about her waking up that I'm afraid to move because I don't want to wake her. So my house is generally a mess, laundry always needs to be done, but I'm working on trying to get a good balance to where I don't feel like my house is a hot mess, but I still am playing with LO as much as I can.
Greatest accomplishment has been accepting that everything can't be perfect, I can't do it all.
Greatest challenge is the lonely feeling. I need some mommy friends in a bad way, right now I have no one I can meet with during the day.
At home activities are still mostly playing on the floor. We go on walks or go to the park a lot. I want to get a zoo pass & try to go there at least once a week this summer.
I've been home for almost 4 years now, but bringing in baby #2 was definitely the biggest challenge. We have our routine mostly down but the absolute most difficult part is that I am always having to break poor baby's routine to keep Griffin's schedule. His naps have had to work around preschool drop off and pick up. Tomorrow I have a dentist appt for G, and it will fall during morning nap. Next week is the last week of school and there are numerous activities for preschool graduation that all fall RIGHT at 10am. It is a struggle.
My greatest accomplishment I guess is that we are all still here and alive. No joke, the last 10 months have been the hardest of my life. So that is a real success. :-)
@LokiLahve - keep going to the park ! I've met lots of nice moms there. Hope you find a playmate soon!
I think we have a pretty good routine at this point. The "schedule" isn't always the same (ie, times may very each day) but we most definitely have a routine.
I would say my biggest challenge is not losing my mind on the days I have my nanny kids. I love them dearly and I love my baby dearly, but four kids under 4 is a lot to handle. I know people do it all the time, but it's still hard. My husband is away for work a lot, as well. So it's hard not to feel like I'm drowning sometimes. Cliche, but I don't want to just "survive" each day. I want to have fun and the kids to enjoy themselves. Mostly, we're all barely keeping together. Ha! The struggle..
I was on a Pinterest kick this week. Feeling restless so I decided to go nuts and make a million things. I'm not even kidding. I may be losing my mind. I had my husband build a bath shelf I saw and had to have "right this second" or else I'd have a mommy meltdown. (He did an excellent job, as always.) I made s'mores cupcakes yesterday and didn't share. And I've been up to my eyeballs in Father's Day crafts.
ETA photos!!!...
ALL MINE!!!!! (Husband doesn't like cupcakes. Blasphemy!)
Our routine is so much better now that DS is awake for three hours in between naps and takes two naps. We actually get out for a walk or errands in the morning before his morning nap, where as before I felt like he would just wake up and have to go back down again.
Like @kwrecks I should be doing more housework while he naps but I know once I get into cleaning the bathroom he will wake up. So I try to just tidy or do a load of laundry.
We have a zoo membership so we go there a lot to walk around. I try to leave the house once a day for a short amount of time, even if we just go to the grocery store.
I should also be doing way more housework, but to late now! I found a job and will be starting tomorrow. Good news is that I can bring LO with me, so its really just like a fun outing.
I try to get a nap overlap, it's like the highlight of my day if it happens. Does your toddler's nap get pushed later or just shorter as he gets older?
It gets pushed later. His ideal nap time right now is about 130/2p and he sleeps til 330/4p. Bedtime is 730/8p.
And yea I know exactly what you mean.. If I can get both down and get an hour, I am stoked!
SO and I only have one car, which doesn't help. We can't afford two since I'm not working at the moment, so I can't drive to visit friends since he needs the car for work.
Our routine is set for the most part during the day, but our evenings are still a bit too hectic. I need to work on getting dinner ready earlier and putting DD to bed earlier.
I might be taking a part time work from home job...The hours are 9a-1p, and DD will be in day care those hours so I can focus on work. If I end up taking the job, we'll have to start working on a pumping / bottle routine to get her used to taking more bottles consistently.
@LokiLahve and @Khaleesi07 I am with you on wanting more mommy friends. I only have one friend with a child, but her lo is 2 1/2 and she works full-time. Last week I went to the library song and storytime and that was fun. Feel as though I need to make more effort to meet other mums in my area.
Before our month long trip lo and I had a schedule down pat. Even though we've been back almost a month it's not quite there yet. Unsure if jet lag/change of routine caused it or if he's simply older and wanting fewer naps.
Every day I try to go out and do something. Usually something like a walk, visiting my parents, or outing days DH is off.
My biggest challenge is also housework. I feel that since I'm at home my house should be spotless - rarely is. LO is too much fun to play games with!!
We never had a set schedule. So we are still going with the flow. Now that DS can crawl, sit & semi-entertain himself for 5 minutes at a time it's gotten much easier.
What is your greatest accomplishment/success since becoming a sahm?
I get out with them every day. We go to the library, children's museum & playgroup. We do have the occasional lazy day in the house but most of the time, we are out meeting people & doing things
Greatest challenge?
Patience. Not raising my voice when I feel flustered. Trying to keep "a nice face" when I can. When both kids start screaming or melting down it can be really difficult to maintain my composure
What activities to you do with lo? (Either in the house or places you go)
Mondays: Playgroup with our friends
Tuesdays: Speech therapy for DD here at home & Children's Museum activity.
Wednesday: Playgroup again
Thursday. Library free play & reading
Friday: Toddler Storytime & free play at the library
Weekends are free to hang out with Daddy & clean house thoroughly. It gets cleaned as I go so it's not a mess, but Daddy gets to enjoy the kids while I power through the deep clean stuff.
