How do you put LO to sleep at night?

How do you put your LO to sleep at night? Do you get them to sleep and then put them in their bassinet/crib? Do you just put them down and let them fall asleep? I am curious what others are doing and how old their LO's are. Thanks!

Re: How do you put LO to sleep at night?

  • My baby is 6 weeks after her 9:30/10 pm feeding we put her in her wearable blanket and put her down in the crib in our room. Most of the time she is asleep after eating if not she is usually still calm enough to put down

  • Most times DS is awake but definitely very calm and seems willing to go back to sleep. If he seems wide awake, I will try to rock him for a bit to at least get him sleepier. We always put our oldest son to sleep while he was awake as well and he has been a great sleeper so we are sticking with that for this LO as well.

  • At night DS is asleep from feeding so I just wait a few minutes in case a burp or spit up happens then I just put him down in his basket next to our bed

Day time ... Usually I have to wait til he's asleep to put him down. I hope soon enough I can just out him down and he will fall asleep.
  • We do a routine:
    Bath (every other night)
    Turn the lights off
Turn on his soud machine (if anyone doesn't have one- get one-OMG)
    Lotion and hair brush
    Dress (onesie and sleep gown)
Swaddle (with a night blanket-this is one that is softer than the blankets we use during the day)
    Read a book
    Pray
    Nurse

My guy is 50/50 on being awake/falling asleep on the boob. If he is still awake, I give him the paci and put him in the PNP bassinet that is next to my bed, and I lie my hand on his chest or hold his hand.
  • I nurse him until he is sleepy. Then I lay him in RNP next to my side of the bed and give him his paci and tuck a swaddle blanket around him tight. All lights off. I have to put paci back in a few times before he falls asleep.

My first son had to be nursed to sleep - would NOT go down "drowsy but awake." This baby seems to do fine putting himself to sleep so I am taking advantage and trying to keep him used to that!! Nursing DS1 to sleep for months, only to lay him down and wake him up immediately, was so frustrating.

  • What we usually do.. Is change diaper, put on pjs, last bottle anywhere from 10pm-12am and then after he is done eating and burping we'll swaddle him and rock him a bit more to calm him down. Sometimes he's either sleeping or he is quiet enough to lay down and let him fall asleep on his own.
  • Change diaper, swaddle, nurse, rock to sleep, lay in bassinet. On bath nights, we bathe and then do the same thing aforementioned.

  • My LO has to be ASLEEP to go down and stay asleep in the bassinet by our bed. He usually falls asleep after an early evening nursing session, so he's asleep until 10:30ish. I've started going to bed earlier to get an extra hour of sleep in during this time. Then he is awake again, so he gets a diaper change, outfit change (it's been just a onesie lately because it's been super hot here). Then I'll nurse again and cuddle with him on my chest until he is for sure asleep (and I'm half asleep by that point). He can usually go back in the bassinet around midnight.

The same routine happens (sans outfit change depending on spit-up factor) when he wakes up at 3 am for feeding and 6/7 am for feeding). I usually try to stay in bed until 8 or 9 am because he sleeps pretty well after a 6/7 am feeding.

  • Diaper change
    PJs
    Feed
Rocking in chair and bedtime story
Put down in crib and swaddle
All lights out and sound machine on

We bathe every other day so that would be at the start of those days. He is 11 weeks old and has started to sleep longer stretches now! yay!

  • We don't sleep at night.

Buttttt I TRY by giving her a bath, changing her diaper, making sure she is fed, And if she were to go to sleep it would be in my arms and then I would put her in her bed

    It's a BOY

  • Wow. I'm impressed.

Ours goes something like this: feed, change, feed, jiggle to sleep, put down to swaddle, wake up, feed, spit up, change diaper, feed, jiggle to sleep, put down to swaddle, swaddle, put to bed.

Insert root/scream/won't latch cycle at various points in there, and then basically take some combination of the above.

That's how we go to sleep.  Routine?  I wish.

  • Maybe I should try praying

  • How do you guys change before a feed? I wish I could do that but LO poops with basically every feed. I wish I could change before a feed because sometimes changing him after he eats wakes him up
  • Change diaper, pjs, nurse, burp, nurse until sleeping. She has to be completely asleep for me to put her in her bassinet. Sometimes we swaddle and sometimes we don't.

Welcomed our rainbow baby 5/20/2014! It's a girl!
