C-Section "Shelf"

Anyone else have a c-section and end up with the dreaded swollen "shelf"?? I'm only 1.5 weeks PP and know that it's still pretty swollen and could eventually go away, but I keep reading about some women who's never went away. STM who've had c-sections and got the shelf, when (if ever) did it go down?

  • Yes, and it hurts like a mofo. I posted about it last week. I finally went to a med supply store Friday (8 days PP) and bought a 4-panel abdominal binder and have been wearing it 24/7. The puffiness has subsided quite a bit and the bruised feeling stays away as long as I'm wearing it and it's situated correctly. No idea how long it'll take to go back to normal. Soon, I pray.

I didn't have this problem with my first. Apparently it gets worse with each pregnancy.

I just had my third CS and it does get better. Mine was never 100% back to normal, but drastically reduced with time and a little work. Running, Pilates, and planks really helped!

  • I'm only 4w pp but my body has changed a few times even within those 28 days...the belt has helped tremendously. I just have to remember that my body went through a major surgery and I can't expect it to get better immediately. I'm giving myself time (mentally) before I start freaking out. Give yourself until at least your six week check up to relax, drink water, wear the belt, take the stool softeners (if you need to), and enjoy your baby.
Post-six week check up is when I plan to start some toning. Nothing crazy, and I'll probably still wear the belt as much as I can :)
