How is LO doing at night?

LO is 3 weeks old. Last night she went down at 7 and slept until 930. Then ate and slept until 11. Hubby gave bottle of breast milk, but I had to nurse her to get her to sleep. She was then up from 230-330. Up at 5. Slept 5-7. So it seems like she was waking A LOT at night.
Anyone have better luck with LO waking less? Advice/tips greatly appreciated!!

Dd is 2 weeks old and it's a crapshoot for us. Some nights she'll sleep up to 5.5 hour stretches and some nights she is cluster feeding every hour or some nights it's the typical 2-3 hour intervals.

Edited. She is EBF but starting the pumping journey either today or tomorrow.

  • Sounds pretty similar to our nights. He will be 3 weeks on Friday and he sleeps for about 2 hours. Sometimes we get lucky and it will be 3. It's more like every hour and a half during the day. I'm looking forward to longer stretches!!
  • Sounds normal to me.

DS goes to bed at 9. Up at 1130 or 12. Wakes again at 2 and 4. Then again at 530 or 6. Then we get up all together around 830.

So roughly every 2 hours. Very normal for BF babies.

DS though eats minimally (or maybe super efficiently) at night then eats a lot in the am til he sleeps for the aft and his hunger surges again from dinner until 9.

I wKe up quite full in the am. Makes sleeping on my belly uncomfortable!

Try to sleep when LO does. Keep the night quiet and minimal movement and noise. We also use white noise to keep him calm. If he wakes and he just fed I'll try to soothe him to sleep either verbally or rub his belly. If that doesn't work I pick him up and rub his back.

Youre doing great! I know the long stretches seem like a mythic unicorn but it will happen!
  • baby is 2 weeks and for the past few nights he was going three hours at a time but last night he was every hour. I don't get it. yesterday we had him awake and doing things all day so of all nights we expected him to sleep more but he didn't and the previous nights he basically slept all day and even at night he was going for three hours without eating. doesn't make sense to meee!
  • Babies don't have a clock. It's better to have a routine rather than a schedule that's based on what time it is.

Whether it's the EASY routine or your own it makes things easier.

DS wakes, gets a diaper change, eats then plays or sleeps depending on the time of day. But I always change before a feed, unless it's poo and he needs another one.

Or bedtime is diaper change and Jammie's on, eat and sleep. I turn the white noise so he knows it's night.

Just some examples. Everyone has their own style :)
  • So if that's every hour, it's every hour if it's 3, it's every 3.

    Enjoy the long stretches :)

This is us exactly. LO was 3 weeks yesterday and could have written this same response.
  • DD will be 3 weeks on Thursday. She nurses sometime between 630 and 8 and I do that feeding in her room and then swaddle her and put her in her crib. She sleeps 3-4 hours (last night was 5!) then is up to nurse. After that it's about 2.5-3 hours of more sleep, eat, 2.5-3 hours sleep, then up for the day.

About every two hours with our 6 day old. With a nightly routine of wake, diaper change, reswaddle, eat, burp, sit upright and bounce on mommy's knees for about 15 minutes, then back in bed! Then DS will continually make noises to convince me he's waking and prevent me from sleeping for the next two hours. Rinse. Repeat.

  • Edith is two weeks old and goes between 2 and 3 hrs at night between feedings and the same during the day. Right now she is ebf but I'm planning to start pumping to build up a freezer supply around 5 or 6 weeks.

Welcomed our rainbow baby 5/20/2014! It's a girl!

  • He is five weeks and will give us 6 hours on the good nights. I'd say every other night is good. But he cluster feeds and cries from 5 pm to 11 pm (when he finally falls asleep). So I get six hours of solid sleep in exchange for six hours of frustration. I'll take it.

  • I have a FF baby, and each night is different some nights he sleeps for 5-6hrs other nights it's 3-4hr stretches. I'm hoping soon he'll sleep a little longer.
  • DD1 nursed every 3hours at night until 8months old. DD2 is 3w old, she's up 3-5times to eat at night. I'm not really sure anymore how long she goes between feeding because we bed share at the moment and she just kinda gets free boob access while I'm in a sleepy daze.

  • My LO is 2 weeks old and goes anywhere from 3-5 hour stretches at night. We haven't really been going to bed until midnightish, sometimes earlier. I had been trying to wake him at 4 hours to eat, but last night I slept through my alarm and he went about 5 1/2 hours. Typically he gets a good four hour stretch in, I feed him, burp him, change him, and go pump, then he will sleep around 3 hours and repeat. But the last few days by about 7:30 in the morning we do the routine, he sleeps maybe 15 or 20 minutes, and then wants to eat some more, and this conitnues for the next several hours. I am thankful I get some good stretches in there, but this whole cluster feeding in the morning is exhausting.

this is my situation too. sooo tire
  • DD (12 days old) sleeps most of the day and then is wide-awake from about 10 pm - 2 or 3 am. She eats (EBF) every 2.5-3 hrs around the clock, but many of the feedings, especially the nighttime ones, take an hour or more and happen in at least 3 parts. I'm exhausted and poor DS (2.5) misses me so much it hurts my heart.
